Air Pollution Monitoring System

High-Level Project Summary

Decoders Squad tests the boundaries of environmental sensing technology. Common pollutants such as carbon and nitrogen oxides, ozone, particulate matter, and others can be measured with our small-scale air quality monitors. Decoders Squad air quality sensors as well as external data sources are fed into our environmental analytics cloud platform in real time. To improve data reliability and accuracy, we deploy our unique Adaptive Cloud Calibration Engine, which is based on machine learning and big data technologies. Our cloud platform reach very high data resolutions, which can help facility managers, environmental scientists, and even municipal management and governments better understand

Detailed Project Description

According to WHO new data,9 out of 10 people are affected by dangerous levels of air pollution. A quick timeline visit: In 2021, about 7 M people died from diseases caused by air pollution according to NASA data. In most of the family, at least one person is affected by asthma and diseases of the lungs. The rate of lung cancer patients is increasing rapidly, with 24% of adult deaths from heart disease, 25% from stroke, 43% from chronic pulmonary disease, and 29% from lung cancer and what surprises are that children are affected mostly- starting from infants.

According to NASA’s data the industrial activities that our modern civilization depends upon have raised atmospheric carbon dioxide levels by nearly 50% since 1750 and heat-trapping gases have already warmed the climate by nearly 2 degrees Fahrenheit (1.1 degrees Celsius) since pre-Industrial times (starting in 1750).The global average temperature is expected to reach or exceed 1.5 degrees C (about 3 degrees F) within the next few decades. These changes will affect all regions of Earth.

This year our challenge is climate change. We are working on how air pollution affects climate change. Our IoT device data and other Earth science data help the user to better understand and visualize climate change's effect on our earth.

In our sustainable development goal, the SDG target is 3.9.1 which calls for a substantial reduction in death and illnesses from air pollution. According to the SDG plan, by 2030 we have to substantially reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air, water, and soil pollution.

Coming to the solution, we have developed a product, which is an IoT-based application that can detect and monitor harmful gasses. It can detect multiple gasses and people can get access easily through a mobile app or web platform with a dedicated cloud server following 4 essential steps:

1. People can keep their eye on the air quality in their daily

lives with real time data from mobile application or our web application with

the help of our dedicated server.

.

2.This Device can detect harmful gasses and can take essential action with the help of AI.

3. They get an alert when the gas level rises too high.

4. Finally, when the gas level raises dangerously, it can

automatically activate the air ventilation system. As a result, the internal air exits and the external air enters.

Hackathon Journey

It was really an interesting and exciting event for our team. In this hackathon many teams across our country participated with their interesting project from various regions of our country. Here we got the opportunity to meet and communicate with many teams , honourable mentors, advisors and tech leads across the country .

I learned a lot of things from this event like long-time work, team work, work under pressure.

Dhaka city is one of the most air polluted cities in the world. It affects serious health issues like asthma, lung diseases and other chronic diseases. It also causes serious health effects to children. This problem motivated us to work on this project.

We got some technical issues with accuracy level for detecting multiple gases for lack of data and industry level sensors.

We are very thankful to NASA and BASIS for organizing this type of event that helps young and curious people to invent interesting and useful technology that helps the entire world, even NASA.
