High-Level Project Summary
how is the weather today? A simple question which I'm probably not interested in answering today but in the future it will be difficult to answer. Climate change is the changes accompanying the increase in the temperature of the planet as a result of the industrial activity of its inhabitants. Seeing the Earth's climate change especially the climate of Lebanon via satellite prompts us to create a scientific and real video about planet Earth and the many fires in the State of Lebanon which are increasing every year more than before. Our goal in this section is to raise awareness to conserve natural resources and ensure the livelihood of future generations.

Detailed Project Description
BACKGROUND
Lebanon 10,452 km2 is located in the eastern Mediterranean and called the "Switzerland of the East" due to the beauty of his regions and the amazing density of forests, where they inspired the country's symbol, the green cedar, and his mild climate represented by four seasons: winter, spring, summer, and autumn. But Lebanon today is not the same as before. Lebanon suffers from frequent fires for years, from July to October. But from the year 2019 the fires began to appear with increasing intensity every year until this year 2022, as many of the Lebanese forests and regions suffered from fires extensively, and this of course affects the environment and climate of Lebanon.
Importance in our project
Lebanon is a beautiful country, and our responsibility as human before as a Lebanese. Our video clip show scientific facts about climate change in the world and Lebanon, specially with the issue of fires, so we put the planet in our hands and we must be as much as we can, we do not want to turn our forests into a gray desert.
The difference between Lebanon 1984 and 2020:

Lebanon fires:
According to several studies, every year, about 2,500 forest fires devour the Lebanese regions. And that 15% of the area of Lebanon, especially in Mount Lebanon and North Lebanon, where the density of vegetation cover is high, is flammable at a "very high" rate, while 34% is exposed to fires with risks ranging from medium to high, while the intense heat does not close the season. The fires, which previously started in July and lasted until October. The number of fires, which 200 on the same day, prompts you to raise doubts about the origin of this fires, especially since there is no natural cause for the outbreak of fires, which is usually lightning striking dry areas, which does not happen at all in Lebanon, and the largest percentage of fires are man-made. , We have divided the causes of fires through direct and indirect:
direct:
- Farmers clean the land by setting fire to the dry weeds that have grown due to the amount of rain that Lebanon witnesses in the winter season.
- The dry season, which extends to 6 months.
- Setting fire to random waste dumps located near or within forested areas.
- Activities that are held in the forests by the camps, which lead to setting fires.
While working on the project on September 26, 2022, we encountered the phenomenon of burning waste of a commercial organization in Ghazieh - South Lebanon:

As for the indirect reasons:
- Lack of forest maintenance
- Neglecting forest and vegetation cover.
These reasons will lead nature to punish us through:
- A change in the nature of the weather and the fluctuations of the seasons without a specific timetable.
- Significant increase in humidity compared to previous years.
- The agricultural sector has been greatly affected, especially seasonal agriculture, due to the corruption of scorched soil.
Our Project Responsibility
So to reduce climate change, more than 75 percent of methane emissions can be reduced by using the technology that exists today, so it must:
- Establishment of an association for the protection and preservation of forests.
- Organizing seminars in schools and universities to motivate and educate the younger generations.
- Cooperating with the Lebanese State (Ministry of Environment / Ministry of Health) to help us and support us through awareness and agricultural programs.
Future of our project
Knowing our limitations as investigators, we are aware of the challenges that will confront us:
- Transferring our reports to the world in order to achieve one of our goals, which is raising awareness of the world.
- Helping specialists in filming and montage, so that our upcoming videos will attract all categories of the world.
- Meetings with the Lebanese authority to build an association that preserves forests and maintains forests.

Hackathon Journey
We are a group of industrial engineering students, participating for the first time in the SPACE APPS challenge. From the moment we were told about the Space Applications Challenge, we were skeptical about his work, but above all, we were curious about our own capabilities to implement it. As a team, we reviewed the list of challenges presented on the SPACE APPS website and felt the inclination towards 'space for change'. By watching clips, explanatory video for the challenge and understanding of the goal. Since Lebanon is in a dire situation, our voices are not heard or taken into account by the authorities. We decided to focus our research on the nature of Lebanon and the causes of fires that have nothing to do with nature, but with the creation of man, and how the burning of forests affected us. We have had many difficulties because there are topics outside of our current understanding, but we have been able to work on them by investigating and studying the resources available to us.
