Save Sundarbans, Reduce Climate Change

High-Level Project Summary

Based on many research Papers, we have come to know the impact of climate change on Sundarbans. That’s why we are developing a web app to reduce the impact of climate change on mangroves to make the world greener and existence friendly. With advanced deep learning technology, we have analyzed and extracted the data using both NASA and Google Maps to determine areas with fewer trees and by this our app will aware people and help the forest authority to determine the places where to plant trees. At first we will aware people not to cut trees and will use drone technology in remote areas to plant trees. It will make the biodiversity stable and help 10 million people as well as the whole world.

Detailed Project Description

To maintain the balance of climate change we are creating a web app based on NASA’s data. Using NASA’s data we are:

1. Detecting Land Surface Temperature

2. Detecting Air Temperature

3. Detecting the rate of Carbon dioxide

4. Detecting the fewer tree areas

It helps us to determine the condition of the mangrove forest. By this, we can get the warming areas and the areas have fewer trees. It helps us to plant trees in that area.

Problem Scenario:

As the world’s climate is changing, it’s affecting the world’s largest mangrove forest also.

1.    Polar ice is melting, and the lower coastal areas of mangroves are sinking gradually.

2.     Soil and water salinity cause damage to plants.

3.     Internal warming of mangroves is increasing.

4.    Biodiversity is disrupting.

Ultimately it is increasing global warming. For this rich biodiversity of Sundarbans is in danger. If there stays no tree in the mangrove mankind can’t survive. It will be tough for the 10 million people near Sundarbans who are directly connected to this large mangrove. To save Sundarbans and the existence of humans we have to reduce this climate change and global warming.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Inspired by watching some of the research papers and with advanced deep learning technology, we have analyzed and extracted the data using both NASA and Google Maps to determine areas with fewer trees and by this, we have come to know the impact of climate change on Sundarbans and Our people help the forest authority to determine the places where to plant trees.

And that’s why we have decided to develop a web app to reduce the impact of climate change on mangroves to make the world greener and try to save the huge asset of nature.

In the web app using NASA's data, we are getting an overview of the Land surface temperature, air temperature, and carbon dioxide rate of Sundarbans on a map. That means we can see the warming from this app and can get an idea about the effect of global warming.

In the Temperature part, we are using Nasa’s JSON data to show the temperature of Sundarbans from 2015 to 2021. One can identify the continuous increase in temperature. This portion can help us to aware people by showing the raising temperature day by day.

Another part is whether it will show the 5 days forecast of the mangrove forest.

From the Point areas, we can get an idea about the specific points of Sundarbans and information about that specific place. We can have a comparison report of the forest. In the Raw view part, we can see the less tree-based areas and then analyze the data with machine learning to determine the exact place and solve these problems with the web app we developed.

What Benefits does it have?

This app is using by direct NASA data to determine the warmest and less tree-based areas. By analyzing data in advance deep learning we can have the actual location. That’s why it is easy to plant trees. Planting trees in the actual location allows us to solve this issue completely. Sending direct messages to the local people creates awareness. Ultimately this will help us to determine places and plant trees, aware the people and finally reduce global warming.

What do we hope to achieve?

In the future, we hope to achieve some features.

We will track our drone from our app and will able to see which areas are our drone covering.

It will help us to plant trees in a better way.

Another thing we will make sure that every habitat near the mangrove can get messages directly from our app about the condition of the forest.

What tools, Coding languages?

 Save-Sundarbans Live Site: https://sundarban-team-invincible.web.app/

This project was bootstrapped with Create React App.

• Technology: React npm package, React-router-dom, React Bootstrap, firebase(for primary hosting).

• For getting Nasa's JSON Data we use Sundarbans temperature data from 2015-2021: https://power.larc.nasa.gov/data-access-viewer/

• Using NASA's data from: https://worldview.earthdata.nasa.gov/, we are getting an overview of the Land surface temperature, air temperature, and carbon dioxide rate of Sundarbans on a map.

• API for the five-day forecast we used: Sign up for a free API key from this link: https://openweathermap.org/

• In the Raw view part, we can see the less tree-based areas and the points area as well by using: https://google-map-generator.com/

Space Agency Data

We are using NASA's data to get our necessary information. Such as:

• For getting Nasa's JSON Data we use Sundarbans temperature data from 2015-2021: https://power.larc.nasa.gov/data-access-viewer/

• Using NASA's data from: https://worldview.earthdata.nasa.gov/, we are getting an overview of the Land surface temperature, air temperature, and carbon dioxide rate of Sundarbans on a map.

Using this data in our project helps us to get temperature list and locations. Our project is based on this information. We are making our solution using interface with the data.

Hackathon Journey

First of all, we were very excited to participate in The NASA Space Apps Challenge 2022. We gained amazing experience from this. For us, a problem is nothing more than a chance to prove ourselves and the possibility of winning this Hackathon. We appear to have achieved the potential of our team spirit.

The world's largest Mangrove Forest is in great danger. We are developing a web app named "Save Sundarbans" to aid the forest department and agencies. With advanced deep learning technology, we will analyze and extract the data using both Nasa and Google Maps to determine areas with fewer trees. These features will help reduce global warming and make our world a better place to live.

The best idea was then chosen through team discussions among several others.

We renovate our idea by sharing knowledge with our mentors of this National Hackathon as well. And we sincerely appreciate BASIS's support of Space Apps Bangladesh, as well as their tremendous mentoring and guidance throughout the project.
