High-Level Project Summary

GreenSpace by the name signifies creating more green space for plants, us as well as for future generations contributing to sustainable development. Is it foggy when you wake up or do you all find it difficult to breathe smoothly or there is no greenery around your environment? Here we come into existence with Green Space. In green space, we have developed a section that would plant a tree whenever user buy any product that may cause carbon emission. Our e-commerce site is a platform for people like us that would like to buy products that would cause no or less carbon emission. This initiative is extremely important as it contributes to living life with more green and less grey.

Detailed Project Description

INTRODUCTION

Since our challenge was how climate change affect you, we thought how and what is the main reason behind the spike in temperature in the atmosphere, and we came up with a solution that would help in the reduction of carbon content in the atmosphere which is one of the biggest reason behind climate change.

Our project works on the motto of curing the environment as its complete stoppage now is not possible. We can’t expect someone to stop using cars, air conditioners, etc in this tech-savvy world. So we are here with a better approach and developed a cure for it. The Percentage of carbon emissions that will happen by using all these products, we will plant trees equivalent to that.

DETAILS

· Whenever a person buys a products from anywhere that may cause carbon emission, they could register to our website. After registering , they can go to the planting section, enter the GTIN number and click on plant. After this a plant will be planted in their name and some points will be rewarded in their name, which they can further redeem as gift cards or our own e-commerce site.

· We have developed an e-commerce site specifically for selling products like refrigerators, air conditioners, etc., which may cause less or no carbon emission.

· Whenever a user will buy any of the products listed on the site a plant will be planted in his/her name. This will nullify greenhouse effect caused which will result in a better climate.

· A tree will be planted as soon as the user enters the GTIN number of their product.

· We have also inculcated the location of your tree by using the feature of geo-location using machine learning.

· A user will also get 100 points on each tree planted which they can redeem in their next transactions.

· User can also calculate their carbon footprints they have wasted and how much is saved after planting a tree.

· On our site we are selling products with less carbon emission.

For this purpose, we have collaborated with an organization named Heartfulness for planting trees. Heartfulness has planted more than 1000 trees in a drought stricken area, due to which the water level of the region increased and now AQI of that region is 8.

OUR AIM

By this, we aim at making more GREEN SPACE for us as well as our future generation. Not only this, but we are also making all our users contribute towards the environment in such a noble way, and that too effortlessly.

How it inspired us

As we came across such data and realized that this problem of climate change due to carbon emission and other greenhouse gases is huge. This data inspired us to change this and we as upcoming engineers should come up with a solution for this then we came up with the idea of GreenSpace.

How we used it:

We used it to make the carbon footprint calculator and to find how many trees should be planted against the carbon emissions products like Air Conditioners, refrigerators, vehicles etc are causing.

Hackathon Journey

When we came across Nasa Space app Challenge we knew that we want to work towards the most concerning issue that has affected so many lives. We live in a crowded region of India(Delhi NCR) and encountered a very sharp increase in temperature and heat waves over the years.

According to https://climate.nasa.gov/ Since the beginning of industrial times (in the 18th century), human activities have raised atmospheric CO2 by 50% – meaning the amount of CO2 is now 150% of its value in 1750. This is greater than what naturally happened at the end of the last ice age 20,000 years ago.

After being encountered with all the statistics and data we realized the issue is more vast than we thought and got more inspired to work for a solution that could solve or at least could reduce the content of greenhouse gases in our environment.

We thought we can not stop people from buying products that cause huge amount of greenhouse gases but we could plant trees that could take up the carbon dioxide released.

Although ours is a good initiative but we came across a challenge after the ideation process. The challenge was –

1. Why would someone register on or website?

2. How could we attract more users to visit our website?

We came up with a solution that whenever a user registers and plant a tree, they will be rewarded by some points which that can redeem as gift cards or on our e-commerce website where we sell product that cause no or less carbon emission.

2. And for providing us a platform where we can raise our voice and provide a simple yet effective solution that could lead to the betterment of this world.
