Tackling the problem, creating solutions.

High-Level Project Summary

Climate change is here and its impact is severe. San Francisco and its outskirts is not the exception. It is undergoing extreme droughts and this has a negative impact on agriculture, one of the most important economic activities in the area. Its inhabitants hear the firetrucks and local news informs that there has been a fire in a field or park nearby, which are slowly dissapearing. The landscape has changed so fast that it has become a desertic place full of dump areas. Talking about climate change is nothing but telling the truth about the real situation in order to find solutions. We aim at raising awareness among the community with our video.

Detailed Project Description

3-minute video: https://youtu.be/U7RNpEguqAA

It is about a comedy cartoon where the characters talk about this issue in a simple and easy-to-understand way.

Raising awareness, informing and encouraging change are our main goals.

Mostly, informative videos about climate change want people to feel guilty instead of showing what we should do to reduce its impact. The information available is mostly aimed at adults.

We think kids should also get this knowledge to take care of the planet since they are the future generation and the ones that will get to live here.

Our project is made not only for adults but also for children. And to achieve this, we used simple language, colorful cartoons and comedy. We expect them to be entertained while they learn.

We used Word, Power Point, Medibang, After Effects, a Wacon graphic tablet, a Pc and a microphone to make this movie.

Space Agency Data

NASA Websites we used:

  • Understanding our planet to benefit humankin: https://climate.nasa.gov/
  • NASA Earth Science: https://science.nasa.gov/earth-science
  • Earth Science at Ames: https://www.nasa.gov/nex/
  • Resource Spotlight: https://worldview.earthdata.nasa.gov/

We didn't included all the information in the final project, but it was useful in the investigation phase.

Hackathon Journey

We were able to practice our creativity and teamwork, in addition to remembering what we had previously learned about this topic, although we were stressed by being locked up for so long developing the project. We were inspired to choose this challenge by our passion for climate change.

Our main objective is getting people to know about this issue to reduce its impact.

We divided the tasks, but in some cases we worked together.

We would like to thank our physics teachers, training for life and work teacher (FVT), the school secretary and the campus coordinator.
