Wildfires in Morocco

High-Level Project Summary

A lot of people think of climate change as a theoretical issue, or as a subject for rhetorical debate. In reality, It's a harsh, unforgiving reality that is taking a toll because of increasingly frequent, severe, and devastating wildfires. Our project "wildfires in morocco" tend to make a video that uses the provided data by NASA and by local organizations, in order to explain the reasons for these wildfires and heatwaves passed in Morocco and of course to find solutions that we can use to prevent our forests from destruction.

Detailed Project Description

WHAT EXACTLY IS IT ABOUT?

Our project "WILDFIRES IN MOROCCO" tend to make a video that uses the provided data by NASA statistics and by local organizations, in order to explain how climate change was the main reason for these wildfires happening in Morocco and suggest some solutions we can use to prevent our forests from being destroyed.

HOW IS THIS VIDEO EXPLAINED?

This video starts by mentioning the recent mega wildfires that happened in Morocco in recent years, which were primarily caused by Global Warming, according to Nasa the global temperature has increased by an average of 1.01 °C since the pre-industrial period in 1880, a number that is currently increasing by 0.2 degrees Celsius per decade.

img : the difference in the world temperature between 1976 and 2021

These anomaly changes in temperature make many environmental problems including drought, water crisis, and hot heat waves that can make a water crisis, kill many people in desert areas, and can lead to the beginning of wildfires in different places as seen in our country.

That's why we also mentioned some of the solutions that we can do to prevent our forests from being destroyed.

WHAT BENEFITS THAT IT HAVE?

It's an awareness video based on scientifical facts, that's going to give an explanation of how climate change "in its small picture" global warming, affects us locally here in Morocco, and how it's the reason for these recent wildfires that cost us much material and unfortunately human losses.

WHAT DO WE HOPE TO ACHIEVE?

we hope to encourage the youth and the environmental organizations in Morocco to invest in youth projects that may help us prevent wildfires and climate change consequences.

WHAT TOOLS DID WE USE?

To make this video we started by making a research about climate change using Nasa provided data, some national statistics, and national media that will be found in the references part.

we used as software:

  • Canva for designing
  • Youcut for editing the video

Space Agency Data

In order to provide simple and useful information to the general public, we used the data provided by NASA’s climate website, we utilized graphs and pictures of global temperature.

We also used NASA’s Applied Remote Sensing Training Program (ARSET) Climate Trainings to get some data, including years, temperature averages, and so on.

Hackathon Journey

To be honest, this experience in Space Apps is really beneficial, we met new amazing people, and we learned about their careers and their vision of the world. This Hackathon taught us how to make a united team although all the differences and distances. We learned how to use websites like NASA's website to get current statistics and scientifical facts. We learned how we can manage a team, how we can lead a team, and have common goals and values. This challenge really requires a lot of time considering that we have a lot of presential classes and online courses. It's been a great journey that's why we wanna thank everyone who was a part of making this hackathon succeed, thank you, guys.
