Breathe to Live

High-Level Project Summary

Air pollution is a burning issue in the modern age as it is causing damage to human health and ecosystems. One of the main causes of air pollution is urbanization. Through urbanization, the number of industries and factories increasing day by day. Preventing pollution is the only way we can breathe safely on earth. “Breathe to Live” is a mobile-based application that detects and monitors toxic particles in the air and filters them by an air purifier tower planted near the emission source. It will alert the user if sudden emission happens, notify air particles level, suggest a safe place near him by collecting data from NASA’s open-source database and show all updates of air purifier tower.

Detailed Project Description

Our project ' Breathe to Live' is a monitoring system-based mobile application that'll detect & monitor air pollution sources. Our observing sensor will collect all the data about the toxic particles & collector parts will collect them & store them in our Air purifier tower.

Whenever a sudden emission happens, our observing sensor immediately measures the number of toxic particles and provides an alert notification to the users. Users also get to know about the time frame of the collecting & interpretation period of data.

Our application will provide a safe location far from the polluted area of the users. By calculating the Oxygen level our application also provides a green environment to the users. We'll find our users' locations by tracking them with the help of Google Maps.

It'll show toxic particles level in the air & when they cross the safety level our application sends a warning to the user's mobile. For mass areas, NASA's open source database is used to give the warning. The air purifier tower is set near the potential emission source & it will show the nearest source of polluted air emission.

Our solution will reduce the air pollution rate. It'll assure a safe environment for living beings.

Space Agency Data

  • Ozone Monitoring Instrument: OMI AI indicates the presence of ultraviolet (UV)-absorbing particles in the air.
  • Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite: OMPS AI indicates the presence of UV-absorbing particles in the air (aerosols) such as desert dust and soot particles in the atmosphere.
  • AIRS(aqua): The Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) Carbon Monoxide (CO) Total Column (Day/Night) layer indicates the amount of Carbon Monoxide (CO).
  • MLS (Aura): The MLS Nitrous Oxide (N2O) Mixing Ratio layer at 46hPa (hectopascals) indicates nitrous oxide levels at the vertical atmospheric pressure level of 46hPa, and is measured in parts per billion by volume (ppbv).
  • MLS (Aura): The MLS Ozone (O3) Mixing Ratio 46hPa (hectopascals) layer is derived from the MLS Ozone product (ML2O3_NRT) available from the Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) instrument on the Aura satellite.
  • AIRS (Aqua): The AIRS Prata SO2 Index Day/Night layer indicates Sulfur Dioxide column amounts in the atmosphere, measured in Dobson Units (DU).
  • OMI (Aura): The OMI Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) Lower Troposphere layer indicates the column density of sulfur dioxide in the lower troposphere (corresponding to 2.5 km center of mass altitude (CMA)) and is measured in Dobson Units (DU).

Hackathon Journey

Hackathon is all about pushing your limits and bringing out the best in you. The only purpose of our team is to learn and explore the competition. Overall it was a wonderful experience to be a part of the world's biggest Hackathon competition. Learning about new ideas, meeting up with other teams, and a growth mindset environment really amazed us and make our experience memorable.

One of the most alarming problems is air pollution. Every year a huge number of people & animals face death issues for this reason. This issue attracts us and we feel to do something for reducing air pollution. Thus our journey started.

Passion to do something for living beings, our team is always dedicated to the project. Whenever we faced any challenges, our team effort and dedication help us to overcome those challenges.

We’re really thankful to BASIS for arranging such a wonderful event, Mentoring us throughout the event, and for supportive & cooperative behavior.
