3 Degree

High-Level Project Summary

We have developed a web page aimed at young people and adults, where you can find animated, interactive and informative videos about how the gradual increase in environmental temperature affects the state of Guanajuato, both in a natural area such as the Sierra Gorda de Guanajuato. We offer information based on scientific evidence; clear, concise, digestible, interactive and entertaining, seeking to encourage people to take action at a personal level to reduce the effects of climate change. Our main attraction is the rendering in real time, we focus on showing the effects of the increase in temperature in a 3D recreation of the Sierra Gorda in the area of Xichú, Guanajuato,

Detailed Project Description

Our project has the video specified in the challenge in a fragmented way since the beginning of the web page shows a general introduction to the topic of climate change in the region (you have to wait the end of the introduction to see the xets part), then we go to an area with a slider which allows the user to play with the increment of the temperature, once a temperature is selected we show an animation rendered in unreal engine which is affected by said temperature, the place they see is a recreation of the sierra gorda (a protected environmental zone in mexico) together with the data we provide a scenario of what the problems of climate change would look like in that area

Interactivity slide with the video in our website (you can control the temperature in our video):

Our first animation (when the temperature is normal)

Second animation ( The temperature starts to rise )

used tools:

we have developed a website where you will find animated, interactive and informative videos about how the gradual increase in temperature affects the state of Guanajuato, both in a natural area such as the Sierra Gorda de Guanajuato and in an urban area, the city of León.

The first part of the project consists of the generation of the video that will be available on the web, then it will be sent to the Environmental Education Center "La Libélula" an museum focused in ecnoloogy, located in Explora in León, México.

The aim is to raise awareness of how climate change affects all of us, of the responsibility of human activity in the increase of temperature and its implications. Climate change affects not only people living in a city like León, it also affects the flora and fauna of natural areas such as the Sierra Gorda de Guanajuato and what we do where we are can have far-reaching repercussions, even if we don't realize it.

Hackathon Journey

Some experiences of our team:

Jouse:

It was a very educational and important experience, because we had the challenge of generating a project that would not only answer how climate change affects us, but we had to apply it to a specific case and that's what we did, we applied the research and development of a page on the effects of climate change in the Sierra Gorda de Guanajuato and in the Urban Zone of the municipality of León, also being aware of making visible and raising awareness about these issues, we want it to be useful for the Libélula of the Explora Center in the Municipality of León.

Mario;

"It was my first time participating in a Hackathon, although I contributed with a minor part, I was pleased to participate and contribute my bit. I think that the key to the success of the project was the commitment and teamwork; the effort of each member to consolidate the idea and make it tangible. It is a project with very solid foundations, inclusive and I really hope it can be materialized and projected to other levels. Climate change affects all of us, everywhere, so it is time to take action and if we do it as a team, with a multidisciplinary, transversal and inclusive approach, these will be more transcendental. I would definitely participate again".

Luis:

Being my first hackathon I was a bit insecure as I didn't know what to expect from the challenge, it was very rewarding to see how a team with such different skills came together to achieve a goal totally focused on achieving it.

Pablo (leader):

I have participated in several social challenges and hackathons with a technological focus but this is the first time that I feel like a quality collaborative work, we all had roles and jobs, even so we had time to support each other, I felt happy to win locally because I saw In challenges, how my way of leading has changed over time to become something that makes me feel proud, as well as combining all my knowledge in gamign branches, but now for an environmental goal, it gave me great pleasure
