Spying the Sun

High-Level Project Summary

The best web page dedicated to the compression of the data collected by the Parker solar probe and the importance of these in human-technological developments, through didactic interaction for all people. It is solved by creating an easily accessible interface, integrating the technologies and theory of the Parker solar probe, for the acquisition of data and images that can be interpreted in different applications. It is important because an adequate interaction accompanied by a correct presentation of data, allows a better understanding for any type of person.

Detailed Project Description

BACKGROUND

The Parker Solar Probe is a scientific mission to unlock the mysteries of the solar corona and solar wind, using innovative technology and autonomy to stand heat and radiation like no other mission.

It will orbit within 4 million miles of the surface of our star to directly study the formation of the solar wind.

NASA's Parker Solar Probe is the first mission to "touch" the Sun. The spacecraft, about the size of a small car, travels directly through the Sun's atmosphere. Parker Solar Probe was launched aboard a Delta IV-Heavy rocket from Cape Canaveral on August 12, 2018.

INTEREST IN THE SUN

The majority of the population lives with the wrong ideology about solar winds, since people consider them risks to humanity and issues that are better not to mention because they are not understood, leading to a majority disinterest ignoring the advantages of knowing and interpreting all possible data provided by this sun probe.

It is worth mentioning that the information provided by scientific sites related to research and data collection about the Sun, are only designed for a certain number of people who are already involved in space issues.

It becomes a headache for most people to enter a page filled with numbers, graphs, unusual concepts not explained, which is not designed to deliver continuous and orderly learning, diverting the attention of a large number of people that they will dislike and have little interest in visiting new sites of spatial knowledge.

IMPACT OF OUR PROJECT

The main impact provided by our project will be the change of thinking about the interaction of the Sun with the planet Earth, as well as its inhabitants and its technologies. People will have a completely interactive space where they will lose their fear of solar phenomena taking it as a object of knowledge.

The change that it will produce in people will take us to a new stage of challenges to satisfy the desire for knowledge. Continuous improvement will be fundamental in every way for the representation of data for all people regardless of disabilities or learning barriers, the way of observing our Sun will change completely.

SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM AND IMPLEMENTATION

The creation of an interface of easy and fast access, integrating the technologies and theory of the Parker solar probe, for the acquisition of data and images that can be instantly interpreted in different applications for humanity and technology.

Specifically, the interface will contain 3D animations for visualization of both the probe and the sun's phenomena and their consequences on Earth, for example, the view from a panoramic point in space of the Sun at the most important moments of the solar winds, where there will be an animation of a representative model of the Parker Solar Probe, emission of sounds of spaceships as in movies or video games and vibration tools for a complete experience.

Each displayed data will have audio, text, image and interaction so that any person, of any age and with any interest can enter the best experience of knowledge about the Sun, in addition to an automatic printing of concepts in braille language by means of a printer of braille. In the other case, as a form of support or complement to the information, it is to use elements for printing in 3D design, frequency variation circuits for the repetition of spatial sounds. It can also be considered elements for the board game, to answer questions and in case of generating doubts, it has a Qr code, to go to the link of the page, to give an explanation of the question or the topic from a synthesized and concise point.

FUTURE OF THE PROJECT

According to current demands for the best learning:

  • Achieve artificial intelligence that guides users for better learning.
  • Integrations of our tools and essence in NASA pages.

Hackathon Journey

We are a team of Mechatronics Engineering students from the Technological University of San Juan de Río, participating for the first time in our generation in the Space App challenge.

When they told us about the Space App Challenge, we had some doubts and concerns about if participating was a good idea, but thanks to our teachers that encouraged us to participate in order to add a great experience in events like these.

The challenge that we chose as a team made us analyze the factors that influence us to not wanting to learn about space issues, because of the complications or thinking that space issues are very complex to understand, but we really came to the conclusion that the problem isn't how complex a subject may be, but how difficult it is to acquire an interest from the beginning, since having an interest from the beginning generates intrigue and the desire to continue learning a subject.

We decided to focus our research on the difficulties or lack of interest that people have, towards the understanding of scientific or spatial information, which we decided to develop and propose solutions, achieving our first participation in this great event.
