FlyFox Space Weather Display.

High-Level Project Summary

In the year 2022, most of us will be having smart devices, especially smart televisions and smart phones. We aim to develop a screensaver for smart televisions and phones that will display the sun with its nearby planets. But it will not just be a screensaver, the tool will be connected directly to Nasa's open source space weather data.About the Space Weather Screensaver:It will consist of the Sun and nearby planets revolving around the Sun.It will be connected to space weather live data. The Sun in the screensaver will react depending to real time space weather data.Like displaying abrupt plasma as the solar storm is detected on the data or just showing a calm Sun as the data is normal

Detailed Project Description

Many of us are not aware about the space weather including solar winds and storms. Our aim is to make everyone understand what space weather is and how important it is to understand space storms in a very user-friendly, simple and innovative way; And make a tool that provides information and data about the space weather in a very inviting way that attracts everyone including young learning minds to people with experiences life has given them.

Our aim was to develop a screensaver for smart televisions and phones that will display the sun with its nearby planets. But it will not just be a screensaver, the tool will be connected directly to Nasa's open source space weather data.

About the Space Weather Screensaver:

  • It will consist of the Sun and nearby planets revolving around the Sun.
  • It will be connected to space weather live data.
  • The Sun in the screensaver will react depending to real time space weather data. Like displaying abrupt plasma as the solar storm is detected on the data or just showing a calm Sun as the data is normal. Thus the tool can be used not just in times of solar storms but also to witness other behavioural patterns of the sun.
  • Adding support for subtitles for those who want to read about the happenings in space and how the solar winds and their Kp index affects everything. Including Earth, nearby satellites, nature and people as well.

Our thought behind making this screen saver was to make more and more people aware about space weather. As people find watching animations more attracting and fascinating rather than reading about the same, we developed this animation as it would not only attract more people towards it, but also would help people with little to zero knowledge about space weather understand about what exactly goes on in space. The sole aim of developing this project was attracting the common people towards space weather and to transferi knowledge to them in a simpler and understanding way, that would also be accessible to all. We also aim at reaching people from all regions and for their ease of understanding we would link the project to the google translator service, so as to allow people to view the data in their preferred language.

The project not only gives information about the sun but also about the planets revolving around the sun. This is an additional feature that can be added to make the project more fascinating and highly informative. The data from the various websites mentioned can also be used to predict the future movements of the sun, and also the space winds as they may cause radio blackouts. Solar storms can also prove to be harmful for the satelites revolving the earth, and ths the tool can be used to predict those as well.

Our project makes use of Java, and Python coding languages, for the translation of graphical data, and google translator for making the project multi lingual.

Thank You.

Space Agency Data

Our project uses the data provided by NASA's life feed about the behavioural patters of the sun. The website used is spaceweatherlive.com. We have also used data from The National Weather Service, provided by the National Oceanic and atmospheric adminstration by the U.S. Department of commerce. Information provided by Solar Influences Data Analysis Centre of Royal Observatory of Belgium has also been used in the project.

The data given by NASA has been used in the artificial intelligence system built to convert the graphical data from the various websites and translate them to readable forms, and as animation for the screen saver. Data from websites was also used to pick imformation for prediction of solar winds and solar storms.

Hackathon Journey

Our hackathon journey involved going through a lot of challenges, and us working on those challenges overcoming them, inching closer to our final destination. As a team our only motive was working together, and seeing our idea work on paper the way we imagined it. The journey not only gave us experience of working on different aspects of the project, but also gave us the pleasure of working together as a team. It helped us understand a lot more about various different aspects of coding, research and artificial intelligence as well as other aspects of designing presentations and project files. The journey also gave us new insights about our own self, where we were able to introspect ourseles based on our knowldge and areas to improve. The hackathon gave us an opportunity to learn things apart from our academics and gave us hands on experience of working on various different problems.

At the end we were able to experience the pleasure of being able to successfully complete the project in time, and it made us better students with more knowledge than what we were yesterday.

Although we were not able to complete the project 100%, but we have a clear picture in our minds and documents that how our project will look after complete development. We aim to learn more and get better as the days pass.

Thank You.
