YourSun

High-Level Project Summary

We created app "Your Sun", that brodcasts live image of the Sun from Parker Solar Probe. This helps to overcome the problem of low accessability to information about satellite images and videos of the Sun. All data is presented in an easy to use and interesting way, everything is well explained so even somebody who is a non-expert on the topic can understand it. We also added a feature of sending a notification when anomalies appear, so everybody can follow what is happening in space. It is important, because some of this anomalies can cause issues with e.g. electronic systems. We also created a widget on whitch you can watch Sun without having to go to the website.

Detailed Project Description

On the homepage we can watch and choose specific channel of the SOD we want to look at, from today (live) or from previous days/months/years (archival records). Underneath it we added some informations about channel you are looking at. In the top right corner you can click on navigation bar and then information about Parker Solar Probe/ our team appears, if you want to come back to Sun image you must click on little Sun in the top left corner. We are planning to create a watch dial that also displays Sun so more people can have acces to this app (even when you only use PC, mobile phone or smartwatch). Our app will have translations to different languages and will be adapted for people with disabilities so there wouldn't be any barriers with using it. In the future there will be QR code that after scanning will automatically transfer us to App Store/ Google Play but for now you can use this app even without downloading it. We hope to reach as many people as we can to give them usefull information in accessible form. To create our project we used: HTML, CSS, JS, API, Frameworks: React, NextJS.

Space Agency Data

In our project we used NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory Data to show live and archival records of the Sun. We also used NASA 3D model of Parker Solar Probe to show people how it looks like, because it's the main base of our project and it inspired us to solve this challenge moreover we used NASA's article about Parker Solar Probe to describe it better.

Hackathon Journey

Space Apps was really learning experience, we met new people, made new friends, spoke with mentors that helped us with going through this project. What we can say about this event is that the organization was excellent, there wasn't any delays and the atmosphere was friendly. We learnt how to work in group, communicate with others, we tried new software that we have not worked with before. We like to work with data and use it in various ways so thats why we chosen this challange, we were also inspired by Parker Solar Probe and by its different data collection. When we faced up difficulties we talked through it in our team and if we couldn't make decision we asked mentors for help. We want to thank them, especially mentors from PrimeBit Games because they gave us some really thoughtfull pieces of advise.
