High-Level Project Summary
What grows together goes better. We developed an app, Tanom, where people can plant suitable crops fit for the season on agricultural land. We used the data from NASA where we get the weather pattern and soil moisture and temperature data and use it to predict whether it is the best time to plant certain crops in that season. This project can address the problem of food waste from spoilage due to unforeseen weather. It is critical to understand how crops thrive in their environment with the right soil moisture and weather conditions.

Detailed Project Description

The tool for designing and building this project prototype is an online website called Canva, which is an online graphic design tool, to help us visualize how should the app be presented to our target users which are the Farmers. Upon designing the project, we want to prioritize that all functionality will be simple and easy enough for farmers to understand and utilize the overall features of the app.
Space Agency Data
We make use of the data from NASA using POWER Single Point where we extracted data about the soil moisture and the earth's skin temperature of our chosen area. We then use the extracted data to visualize, using matplotlib.pyplot library, on whether that crop can grow in that area. The retrieved data can also be used to determine whether the soil is too dry or moist to plant a crop in that location.
Hackathon Journey
Our Space Apps experience was all over a great experience. We’ve been exploring and moving to many challenges until we chose this challenge concerning agriculture. We are inspired by this effort because we want to help farmers reduce crop waste by using NASA data on weather patterns and soil moisture temperature, as well as to aid people with food security. Our team divided tasks, but we helped each other when an individual is stuck on a specific task. This has been a flexible and educational experience for us and we hope as well that this project will further improve and to continue to promote the well being of farmers, with the feedbacks given by our mentors this app will surely create a mark towards our society.
