The System Furioso

High-Level Project Summary

We developed a storage system that allows to maintain and deliver energy to a platform for 60 days on the planet Venus with its nocturnal weather conditions. The system solves the challenge by employing an insulating capsule and inside it is a closed system created by a power supply that provides energy and stores it, and also includes an extra wind load system to supply the main source.

Detailed Project Description

Our project presents a solution to energy storage on the planet Venus. Due to the climatic conditions and extreme temperatures both during the day (426°c) and at night (-173°c) it is difficult to store energy and that is where the problem differs. As a solution we propose an isolated system, in the night conditions in a way that allows us to store and deliver energy to some platform or Rover during the 60 days.

The operation is as follows:

Initially we use a 3-layer coating: titanium (provides structural strength and protection to external agents), Aerogel and Argon (internal atmosphere) to protect and insulate our system. Then we proceeded to build the system, which is composed of a power supply (BYD) initially fully charged, which is connected to a vertical wind generator (Sabonius) which provides energy to feed back the source allowing the energy loss decreases in less proportion.

The functionality starts with the source already loaded, it has a control of the internal atmosphere maintaining the temperature at 20° permanently.

Once the internal climate is determined, the battery is maintained at that temperature for optimum performance, in turn it is connected to the generator and keeps delivering and absorbing energy.

This system is designed to support 60 days supplying the energy required for the tasks to be performed.

The system is designed to work in the night of Venus (-173°) because we decided to focus on this area and not in the day (426°) as the extreme temperature makes it very difficult to perform any system. In this way and in these climatic conditions in which the platform or the rover freezes, the system can perform its function during 60 days (or more).

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS TO BE CONSIDERED:

System volume: 7 m^3.

System mass: 8000 kg.

amount of stored energy: 969600 W

rate of loss of energy without use: 171w.

Hackathon Journey

It is a great experience and a great pleasure to participate in challenges in the space field and its various fields. We were very pleased with the event and we took a lot of knowledge about space and contacts of different people but with similar ideals to contribute (in our small but pleasant measure) the knowledge and experience of each person who participated in this hackathon, thank you very much for everything!!!
