how to use a thermoelectric generator on venus

High-Level Project Summary

As Venus is from the most difficult planets to explore due to very high temperature and pressure in addition to that Carbon dioxide gas is the most abundant gas in its atmosphere, So the solution chosen for this challenge won’t only last for 60 days but it can last forever as it is a thermoelectric generator depending on difference of temperatures between different regions on Venus in order to transfer thermal energy already existed on Venus into electric. This will be very useful for the exploration missions as it offers a permanent source of energy for the long duration missions without need to store energy. Solving this challenge will allow the exploratory missions to stay for long durat

Detailed Project Description

According to our small prototype only the mechanism of transferring thermal energy into electric was indicated by using a lamp which lighted after heating the point of connection between iron bar and copper bar for about 20 minutes. But in real there would be more design requirements to consider like:

- If the Aluminium layer prevents reaction of iron and copper with Venus atmosphere or not.

- Is Temperature difference between the two mentioned regions in Venus would generate enough electricity to operate a rover?

According to this graph by going up in Venus atmosphere the temperature decreases So the prototype depended on that mechanism to make a temperature difference between two sides of thermoelectric generator.

As the temperature difference is more than 270 Celsius so the produced electrical power will be more than 21 watt.

Also aluminium was chosen to cover iron and copper to prevent their reaction with Venus atmosphere at the same time it won’t affect the heat conductivity as it is a good conductor of heat and electricity and it has high melting point.

Iron and copper were chosen for their properties as they have high melting points up to 1000 Celsius so they won’t be affected with temperature or pressure on Venus in addition of their high ability to conduct heat and electricity.

Space Agency Data

It provided us with venus Properties, it helps us to know the conditions that our project will work in and this what our project based on, the open space data also helps s to know the last vens exploring like venera 13.

Hackathon Journey

space apps learned us more in many sides, we learned how to control our time we benefit a lot from hackathon day and it was a very fun and joyable experience .
