Go Far on Mars

High-Level Project Summary

We developed models of several items that would be necessary for surviving on Mars. We made tools, furniture, items for quality of life, and games. We wanted to especially consider physical and mental health, focusing on the well-being of astronauts, which is more vital than fancier tools. All of the items that we created are essential, as they each provide something new that the astronauts need, making sure to be very efficient with the limited materials.

Detailed Project Description

We used Fusion 360 to design our models. We hope that by using these models, any astronauts on Mars will be able to quickly get used to their new lives with all the items that they need. We focused on improving the quality of life for the astronauts by including items that would help them with their daily lives, such as toolboxes, trolleys, and chess sets (for exercising the brain and helping astronauts cope with social isolation). We made sure to make edges flat so astronauts wouldn't accidentally hurt themself.

Space Agency Data

We used data from the Arc3d website to find the specifications of the rover wheel, which is used for designing the replacement rover wheel.

Hackathon Journey

When researching issues in space, we learned a lot about the effect of isolation on astronauts. As such, we believe that more concern should be given toward the well-being of astronauts. We both love 3D design and 3D printing, so we had a lot of fun designing models for this hackathon! When we brainstormed ideas, we made sure to think mostly about the impact each design would have, and how important it was. From there, we chose what we thought were the most important models, and designed as many as we could in the limited time that we had.
