Outfitting a Mars Habitat: A 3D Print Challenge

High-Level Project Summary

It was chosen because it is a subject that draws attention due to its degree of difficulty, beingquite challenging and engaging about how a human could live for 1 yearon the Red Planet. Considering that their resources are limited, the teamseeks to bring this human to a comfortable experience in the Martian environment in thespan of a solar terrestrial translation approximately 365 rotation. We believe that the resolution of this challenge is valid, since it is of great importancefind executable solutions, taking into account situations that may arisein the future, such as in this challenge. At the same time, temporary solutions canendure even longer, leading to a general experience w

Detailed Project Description

Solving this challenge it is expected that the tools manufactured with the

3D printers become viable, multi-purpose and indispensable, as long as they are used

optimally the materials that are available to the astronaut. arriving like this

to the satisfaction of his needs in the area where he will be living, both

personal and for research. All this taking into account that it is also

needs the creation of interactive materials to keep the astronaut active

so that his mental health is not affected.

Finally, it is hoped that with the tools that were invented, the astronaut

can improve the area in which it is located, making it sustainable for more than

a year, both with water, energy and food. Said in this way the

performance of the current scientist as future travelers should be higher.

Space Agency Data

How am I going to solve this project?

Starting from the design of pieces necessary for the subsistence of a human being inside

of an isolated habitat on the Martian surface, seeking efficiency and simplicity

of the tools and furniture busy at the time of creating them.

Well, an aspect of vital importance when developing the solution of this problem is

seek that the pieces printed on the different machines available can be

exploited in the best possible way, having more than one functionality with the

objective of saving materials and printing time.

What steps will I take?

Starting from the design of some basic parts such as screws for the assembly of

different parts,

What tools will I use?

For the assembly of the different pieces it will not be necessary to use any

bonus tool

Hackathon Journey

This challenge is somewhat possible, since to date it has not been possible to send people to Mars.

It is also possible that in the future this plan will be conceived, therefore, the traveler

will be facing these circumstances, since the high temperatures of the landing

they come to destroy parts of the ship and you will have needs to cover during your stay;

Therefore, it is necessary to have a planned plan on solutions to all possible

scenarios. It is a project and an approach not so far from a future reality.

So we really enjoyed the event.
