Modular regolith concrete construction with connectors.3D printed tools, in both metal and plasticRedesigned wheel for rover.A one-year stay on Mars requires rethinking how to create the necessary conditions for subsistence. Considering that the greatest difficulty is to bring the materials from Earth, we must change the paradigm and transform the way of generating and exploiting resources, emphasizing sustainability. It has already been demonstrated that 3D printing is the path to the development of humanity as a multi-planetary civilization.

FORNITURE
Modular regolith concrete construction with connectors
When we arrived on Mars we find our habitat ready for occupation, but from the first day we need to generate furniture to equip it. Our solution proposes an innovative and revolutionary construction system based on
3D Printed Panels and connectors that take advantage of the resources already available on site, which we call AstroLink.

Panels
Crushed Martian rock mixed with a Titanium alloy allows the production of rigid panels with ideal characteristics to be used in furniture assembly. It has been demonstrated that The proper proportion of these components prevents the formation of cracks and bubbles, presenting better properties than only titanium , which means that it can be used to manufacture lightweight panels suitable to support heavy loads.
Connectors
As a complement to their assembly, we developed a system of metal printed connectors. These are available in different configurations that allow an unlimited variety of designs, testing the imagination and creativity of the inhabitant. They were conceived and designed for multiple configurations.
Hexagons
These plastic printed hexagons are a coating solution for the rough surfaces of AstroLink panels. Created as a versatile complement, it allows several of them to be joined together by means of a small socket, in order to cover the required surface. Its vanguard design makes it an aesthetic and playful element, since it gives the possibility of using them in fun board games, for example: "The Island" or "Catan" "Hex Roller", which would mean an excellent hobby for the astronaut.
TOOLS
Our 3D printed tools, in both metal and plastic, provide great flexibility of use and ensure supply according to the astronaut's needs. Because metal is a scarce resource on the Martian surface, we limited its use to tools that need to be more resistant.
WHEELS
The wheel was redesigned in sizes 5 and 20 inches (due to the lack of size specifications in the challenge) with closed sides, which prevents the entry of stones and sand. On the tread it has the letters "SPD" in Morse code, which mention Team Space Discovery. It also has a steering arrow, a deeper tread that would allow it to better traverse steep or sandy terrain.
The wheel has an arrow in forward direction and allows to assemble the aforementioned piece on one side or the other as shown in the figure and also has a morse code with the letters "SPD" mentioning the Team Space Discovery.
--------------
We hope that this system will be implemented in the near future.
All this represents a big step for the future of space exploration, to make humanity a multi-planetary civilization.
The next goal is to contribute to the communication of this type of information for public and educational use as support material for future developments in this type of technology.

Our participation in the NASA Space App Challenge was incredibly satisfying. It was a weekend of very intense activity, where we were able to realize the ideas discussed since the previous week. We achieved an interaction as a team where the best qualities of each of the team members were revealed, overcoming the difficulties that were presented to us.
We learned it is necessary to increase the communication of information that NASA and other space agencies provide, so they can be used in multiple areas of people's diary lives. We can also mention by forming multidisciplinary teams, the knowledge of the use of certain tools is shared and this increases the probability of success.
Likewise, we nourish ourselves even more with technical knowledge about the different technologies currently in use and those under development.
Finally, we continue to develop our creativity, imagination and patience.

Imagine you’re an astronaut who has newly arrived on the Red Planet. Your habitat has been pre-constructed for you, but, other than three 3-D printers, it doesn’t have most of the things you need to live and work. Your challenge is to design tools, furniture, and other items to assist you on your one-year mission.
