Accessibility to Science and Criterion of Open Science with Wisdom Of The Crowd

High-Level Project Summary

Our project consists of 2 phases.First stage ; We aim to create an open science evaluation and screening metric using collective consciousness support with a search algorithm powered by a minimal but effective engine we call the Grid Engine based on Wisdom Of The Crowd. In the second phase: We contribute to making science more accessible to all members of the society by combining the information we have obtained through the literature review method with our accessibility-based UX design.

Detailed Project Description

While reviewing the challenges and their resources, we were stuck between the titles Stem To Steam and Measure Open Science (hereinafter referred to as M.O.S.). Our solution ideas for the two of them started to form in our minds, and the TOP mentioned in the M.O.S sources caused us to make our final decision. We decided to combine our two projects. We decided that one part of our team would design a search engine for M.O.S and another part would make a site aimed at meeting accessibility standards so that we could adapt this engine.

Website: While we were building the foundations of our site using Angular, TypeScript, FireBase, we designed it over Figma. In order to provide accessibility to people with Auditory, Visual, Neurological and Physical disabilities

A flicker-free interface

Color modes for Color Blindness

Contrast sensitivity adjustment

OpenDyslexic font usage option

Focus Mode

We added Light and Dark modes.

In our list, we want to add features such as Text To Voice, Keyboard Navigation, Magnifier, Image Caption, AI API supported Video Transcription to our site over time.

The basis of our engine, which we call the Grit Engine, is a kind of social media approach that we created by starting with the idea of Wisdom Of The Crowd and supporting it with the Jury Theorem. In our opinion, if Reading %, Click Through, Keyword based Choice, Save to Read, Share through time metrics are used, capturing a normal distribution curve over time will be an adequate and important approach not to measure the accuracy of the information, but to measure the access to the right information.

Hackathon Journey

Together with my team, we united on different technologies and set a challenge target. It was a nice experience for me, I think it added a lot to me. I was in charge of design in my team. I had no design knowledge before. I learned the program called Figma and improved myself. I was inspired by the fact that people with disabilities do not have sufficient access to technology. To ensure that each individual can access the right information regardless of obstacles.A solution was provided for disabled individuals by considering their disability levels.Everyone in my team has a great effort, I thank them all.
