Open Science, Open Mind

High-Level Project Summary

Over time, the number of scientific publications has increased, however, the impact they have on the scientific community and the general public is unknown. Nowadays, different metrics are analyzed that help to elucidate a little the status and impact of scientific research. With tools such as Scopus and Scimago Journal & Country, as well as free-use programming languages, different metrics can be obtained which allow the impact to be related to socio-economic variables, for example. These analyzes allow us to analyze the state of science by country, by year, by region, among others.

Detailed Project Description

By using the r software, it was possible to extract information from Scopus and Scimago Journal & Country in order to obtain metrics different from those found on the web. In this case, it was possible to relate socioeconomic variables such as investment in militarization, spending on education, access to electricity, among others. This analysis is expected to identify patterns by country, region, among others.
