On April 28, 2021, during its eighth flyby of the Sun, Parker Solar Probe encountered the specific magnetic and particle conditions. It had crossed the Alfvén critical surface for the first time and finally entered the solar atmosphere to “touch the Sun.”The project was announced in fiscal year 2009 at a cost of $1.5 billion. The spacecraft , designed and built by the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory , was launched on August 12, 2018.
