Journey to the Sun

High-Level Project Summary

Ever snce times of old the bards told tales of the grear warriors and heroes of their time. Music is the best way to touch people's souls, and this mission doesn't deserve any less than to be known by everybody. Today, through a song, we will tell the story of this brave spacecraft: Parker Solar Probe. Since Icarus fell to his death for flying too close to the Sun, no one ever believed humanity would be able to really touch it. But, here we are. And it wasn't that sounded in the media. So, we wanted to give the world a brief story. We are a team conformed by students of engineering, animation, design, and music. Our habilities combined really well for this kind of project.

Detailed Project Description

The sun used to be unattainable. All the stories told us the same: Icarus started soaring higher and higher towards the star, eventually, it melted the wax off his wings and they disintegrated, causing him to fall to his death.. Phaëthon also traveled to the Sun and got burned.

But a few months ago, humanity did something extraordinary and unimaginable: it has touched the sun.

It is never known how thoroughly a star can be explored and the Parker Solar Probe is the exception to this, transporting itself through the vast territories of space in order to decipher the mysteries that characterize the Solar Star. We propose a music video, which through its lyric and animation tells us this fascinating story, which was important fruit in the life of the celebrated Eugene Parker when describing the energy emission of the stars including the Sun.

This great tour transmits the feeling of every child when discovering a new world through imagination, makes you fly more and more to that ideal world and makes you protagonist of the events that happen around you.

For the development of Perihelion we focus on using computer drawing software (Krita and Procreate), audio editors or digital audio workstations (FL Studio), as well as video editing programs (Filmora 11, Davinci Resolve 18 and CapCut) ; these tools are the fundamental pillar for our final product to be pleasant for the target audience.

One phrase that resonates in our mind and keeps us in conviction with the must we have is the following:

"We should do astronomy because it’s beautiful and because it’s fun. We should do it because people want to know. We want to know our place in the universe and how things happen". John N. Bahcall.

Space Agency Data

In general, the following was where we got all our information from:

  1. https://www.nasa.gov/content/goddard/parker-solar-probe
  2. https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-mourns-passing-of-visionary-heliophysicist-eugene-parker/
  3. https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2021/nasa-scientist-kelly-korreck-on-journey-to-sun-and-what-it-takes-to-get-there/

We used this information at the beginning of the project. For research about PSP, the man it's got its name after, and its process. Mainly Nasa.

Hackathon Journey

During these hours of work that we have had in the Space Apps Challenge this year, we have given ourselves the task of applying our knowledge in every branch of research and of course, in communication technology in order to bring the worldwide community closer to the incredible territories of astronomical study and its impact on current education.

This experience that we are experiencing both individually and as a group has been of great help to us especially to the field of study of which we are each of the members, There may not be experience at all from one concept to another but we are aware that with the right orientation we had that weekend is more than enough to feel proud of what we have achieved so far.

We have also been going crazy with the editing and the perfection that we must give our proposal, but that barrier with the support of each member was gradually reduced so that the result is satisfactory and to the liking of people who see it.

"The most beautiful thing we can experience in life is the mystery, that source of all art and all science that teaches us the correct use of the Sun and the planets, and we marvel at the feeling that everything has a beginning and we can travel through it through dreams ".
