Detailed Project Description
Our team “Project Unique” chose the challenge “On the way to the Sun” and came up with an idea of creating a short documentary about this historic achievement of Parker’s Solar Probe touching the sun. All the major information about Parker's Solar Probe and its marvellous shield, including about building the probe, developing the mission, overcoming challenges and making new scientific discoveries is provided in the form of an inspiring short movie. We believe it is a suitable and efficient solution for the challenge because we can educate the audience through a short, inspiring and informative documentary and engrave the memorable image of the perilous mission of the Parker Solar Probe in their minds. We used the open source resources of NASA, adding related animations, HD images, text and videos clips. Last but not least, there is a famous saying, “A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS AND A MOVIE IS WORTH A THOUSAND PICTURES”. As we researched, we realized that there was no better way to deliver a message or story to our young audience. We are certain we can leave an impression in the minds of our audience and that they will learn more effectively about the journey in an engaging way by watching this brief documentary. We hope that this documentary will inspire young people to create their own space technology and to continue exploring the Sun or other planets.
Space Agency Data
We used texts from NASA’s Goddard(site), Nasa.gov and phys.org. We used Photos from Nasa Goddard, Nasa.gov, and Phys.org, ABC News.go.com, istockphoto.com, api.hub.jhu.edu (open source picture) and CNN. In addition, we used clips from Nasa Goddard (youtube channel), Nasa.gov and Real Engineering (channel), AShamaluevMusic (background music). We used NV - video editor, Nasa.gov, Rush and CapCut (video editing app) to create the documentary. Secondly, we used Text To Speech and My Voice applications to generate (speech) text into speech for our documentary. Lastly, we used animation from Parkersolarprobe.jhuapl.edu (John Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory).
Hackathon Journey
It surely was a unique and unforgettable experience. We were really amazed to find out such incredible things about space and explorations in our solar system. The way people contribute and serve humanity by doing great work in APL (Applied Physics Laboratory) such as NASA, is solving the major problems on Earth and in space. And the Space Apps Challenge was so diverse which gave us options to choose from a variety of topics. People from all around the world can show their excellence, work together, and broaden their perspectives. Who knows, maybe their idea can solve a huge challenge that scientists or humans are facing on Earth or in space. Through teamwork, we can solve many unsolvable problems. Though it was a tough journey for us to create this project, overall, it was a fun and interesting journey. We put in so many hours working on this project, but it was memorable and we had fun.
We are really honored to be part of this project. The reason why we chose this challenge is that Parker's Solar Probe journey to the sun suited us the best. After finding out about this mission, we were dazzled and knew right away that we could manage to work on this challenge. The “creativity" and "writing an inspiring story" requirements caught our attention. The captain of our team is a good graphic designer and I am a passionate bookworm, working on storytelling. So why not to try to combine these two skills? We thought this would be a good collaboration. We believed we could create something good and helpful by using what we know and honing our craft at the same time.
We had different approaches at first. Our priorities were to create inspiring content and mention all the important measurements and scientific facts.
So we thought about making comics, but after some research, we changed our mind, because we didn’t want to just copy information from the original site and paste it on the other website. It was not an innovative or inspiring idea from our perspective. Then we agreed on a short documentary. We wanted it to be educational, impactful, interesting and at the same time inspiring, too, catching our audience’s attention.
We would like to thank the NASA Space Apps Challenges Team for providing such a great opportunity in the form of challenges where we can use our ideas, be creative, solve a global space problem and develop our skills.
We are beyond grateful for the American Space Dushanbe organizers team, as well, for their responsiveness and assistance.
Shohina: Also, I'd like to thank my partner on this project the captain of the team - Ahmad. If not for him, I would probably miss this great chance to challenge myself and learn something new. I thought Space Apps Challenge was only for those who are good at technology and astrophysics, but he convinced me that people who are good at certain arts are also welcome to join and have a wonderful experience.
