Intellectual finder agent (for NTRS - NASA Technical Reports Server)

High-Level Project Summary

The goal of our project is to raise awareness and interest in space. We have created an intelligent agent that automatically searches for the title, authors, abstracts, and keywords of pdf files hosted on the NASA Technical Report Server (NTRS). The user will be able to get brief information about any file in the form of a pdf file. This is important because we are promoting knowledge about space from official reports published by NASA researchers

Detailed Project Description

The goal of our project is to raise awareness and interest in space. NASA Technical Report Server (NTRS) is a public database of NASA's current and historical technical literature. The user may gather data and imagery from NASA Science Mission Directorate APIs. The user will have to face various difficulties, such as determining the page where the short information is located, this page may have different titles in different cases parsing pdf files hosted on the NTRS. The user needs to make quick decisions in the face of a huge amount of pdf files. We have created an intelligent agent that automatically searches for the title, authors, abstracts, and keywords of pdf files located on NTRS. The user will receive the page number on which the brief information is located, and the information itself in the form of a pdf file. Moreover, in the future, we want to turn our intelligent agent into a text parser based on machine learning. We can partner with various educational organizations to promote the idea that space is closer than you think, and that working with official documents is fast and convenient

Space Agency Data

We used data from the space agency to create a database of pdf files. Our main goal is to make our project as realistic as possible. We try to convey information to our users in a clear and concise manner. We are interested in giving our users reliable and confirmed information and giving them the opportunity to improve their knowledge about space. Our goal is to learn the essence of official documents in a convenient form and quickly. We used data from NASA surveys. The behavior of the intelligent agent is based on reading the specified pdf file, determining the page on which the brief information about the file is located, generating a new pdf file containing the extracted brief information, and specifying the page of the original pdf file on which it is located.

NASA data on various space technologies in different files inspired our project. We were so inspired by this idea that we chose the slogan of our project “Find everything everywhere”, its goal is to help masters find the information they need in NTRS. We hope that our intelligent agent will help researchers fulfill their dreams and feel like real experts in the field of space technology

Hackathon Journey

Our hackathon way was fast and very eventful. In just 48 hours, we came up with our own project. We had to access NASA research data, and the NASA Technical Reports Server database, study and systematize them, using previously acquired knowledge and gaining new ones in the process. We have acquired new skills and improved old ones as a result of hard work. We have learned to find optimal and non-standard solutions. We have learned to quickly adapt to new working conditions and use new, unfamiliar tools. Working with data from NASA Technical Reports Server and other agencies has proven to be especially useful - we have improved our ability to analyze and organize data, find the necessary information and present it to a specific group of users. Our team also went through the next stage of team building and solidarity, in addition to purely scientific and technical skills. We were so inspired by the idea of finding information about space technologies located in different files that we chose the slogan of our project “Find everything everywhere”, its goal is to help researchers find the information they need in NTRS
