Can AI save our science legacy?

High-Level Project Summary

Growing up in the age where presence and usage of AI is as common as drinking water and wearing clothes. It’s been interesting to see how AI has leapt to the forefront of our minds. Just a few years ago, artificial intelligence was a field that lived primarily in academic research labs and science-fiction films and as a fantasies in our minds. There has been no better time to be in the world of artificial intelligence than now. AI has achieved an inflection point and is poised to transform every industry. Therefore, now we take a step back to consider how artificial intelligence is poised to fundamentally restructure broader swaths of our economy and society over the next decade with boldpredictions

Detailed Project Description

AI can in the future be applied to thousands of issues affecting the environment. For example using AI and

data from NASA, researchers are able to identify patterns and monitor changes of land surfaces, such as

decreasing sea area, ice caps surface area which can be used to determine future risks. AI can also be used

to monitor pollution and other contributions to climate change.

• AI can be used to protect oceans from illegal, over fishing. Satellite data and data of ship movement are used

in a machine learning algorithm, Global Fishing Watch which can be used to identify where boats are fishing

illegally. This is protecting marine life and protecting over fished areas.

• This approach needs to start now, time is too short and resources are becoming too thin on a global scale, to

achieve environmental gains AI and data is empirically necessary to make these changes our planet needs.

To achieve this a global collaboration between research institutes, companies, industries, governments and

charities must start for the best interest of our planet

Hackathon Journey

Our journey in space apps was excellent. We were facing a lot of net issues as we were on our way home on train but our zeal towards this project kept us motivated to complete it. We are extremely thankful to NASA for this wonderful opportunity.
