Argonautas: using technology to transform the universe

High-Level Project Summary

Our project is an application that provides the user with immersion in a journey through the solar system full of knowledge and fun. Our main character is an astronaut on a mission, who had technical problems in his ship and now needs to learn from living organisms and years of evolution how to overcome them and what improvements to make in order to return home safely. Our platform allows us, in a dynamic and friendly way, to explore the effect of these stresses and show how various organisms deal with them through their real-life superpowers, enabling a journey through our solar system and biotechnology as the story unfolds.

Detailed Project Description

Our project is a mobile application that allows a true immersive journey into the cosmos for the user. It starts with the premise that you are accompanying an astronaut on his space trip, and that unexpectedly his ship breaks down, losing control of factors such as: oxygen levels, temperature control and gravity. However, the ship's artificial intelligence provides an idea to get you out of this problem, it explains that over the years, and because of the mechanisms of evolution, several organisms have emerged with the ability to survive the most adverse conditions possible, presenting real superpowers to live in these places.

The trajectory of the application allows the user to travel between planets in our solar system that present these adverse conditions, and to collect organisms with the ability to live in these places, studying them, in order to learn what makes them so special, and from this to implement changes in the ship so that it can adapt to these planets as well. Each of these planets has a main characteristic that drove the evolution of the organisms that are there to adapt, initially there will be 3 planets explored: Mercury (where the character is exposed to extremely high temperatures, due to the planet's proximity to the sun), Venus (where the user knows a hostile atmosphere and needs to learn how to deal with these conditions) and Mars, the "Red Planet" (with its low gravity, which can cause several side effects in our traveler).

Our application allows the user to have fun while learning about our solar system and about Biotechnology, seeing how some experiments are performed in practice, through videos. Our goal with this tool is to awaken people's scientific curiosity for space exploration and the potential that life inside our planet can present, to the point of being able to survive elsewhere.

For this we used the Google docs and Google form tools for structuring and feedback, the flluter development kit, the Rive tool for integration, the figma tool for design, and the Dart programming language for writing the lines of code. Canva and Google slide tools were used for making the pitch.

Space Agency Data

NASA's open databases were used, especially from the Astrobiology institute to map the organisms and their characteristics (https://astrobiology.nasa.gov/nai/index.html), moreover, in order to obtain information about the planets in the solar system NASA Solar System Exploration (https://solarsystem.nasa.gov), from NASA Science, was used, which allows you to visualize our solar system and observe interesting characteristics about the planets that are in it.

Hackathon Journey

The experience of being able to participate in the hackathon was extremely enriching for the whole team and provided us with unforgettable learning moments about life, biology, and space. We are very grateful to have been able to participate and to have learned so much during this period.
