Bio Hero

High-Level Project Summary

We developed an escape room website where readers answer questions based on the reading information we have put on the website. The challenge asked us to design a platform that allows users to explore space travel stresses, understand how diverse organisms deal with these stresses, and then build a “Space Biology Superhero” by combining features from these organisms. Our users will unlock a BioHero when the escape room is completed. It is a fun and educational way to show how organisms deal with environmental stresses in space travel.

Detailed Project Description

Our project uses google sites and google forms to create an escape room where users read about a given space's environmental stress, and then answer the corresponding question. Unless they answer the question correctly, they don't move on. Once they finish one of the stress sections, a feature relating to that stress is unlocked and users do this until they reach the end of the form. Ultimately, there is a unique space biology superhero, or as we call it, a BioHero unlocked which can withstand numerous space stresses. It is beneficial because it is a fun and educational way to learn about space travel stress and is easily accessible to all. We hope to educate people via our website. We weren't able to fully flesh out our website and escape room due to technical issues as we were doing online and encountered numerous tech issues. However, the idea is there, and if we had more time, we would be able to really improve on it.

Space Agency Data

We used the NASA data in our project as it was easily accessible and very interesting. We are 13 14, and 14, so understanding some of it was tricky, so our idea was to take that information and present it in an understandable way

Hackathon Journey

Our experience was sort of stressful as we had a lot of technical difficulties, but we ended up having a project in the end. It was a fun learning experience and we learned about risks.
