Detailed Description

Doctor Space Traveller is a comic book that is based a married couple ,who are scientists .They are working heaven on earth to overcome the one difficulty that is left for human beings to become an interplanetary species

They are running experiments on rats but all is in vain until years later whilst the wife is pregnant ,she gets bitten by one of the rats

All seemed well until the child is born with unexplainable capabilities

This gives Rise To the birth of AJ ,our very own biology space Superhero

Problem - Radiation

In outer space there are high amounts of radiation which is harmful to the human body. The Earth itself even protects itself from cosmic radiation .

If humans were to get exposed to it ,it could lead to cancer and other nervous system disorders

Solution

Use of lightweight magnetic fields which deflect radiation to protect an astronaut from this deadly radiation

Problem - Mitochondrial dysfunction

The Mitochondria is commonly referred to as the powerhouse of the body

Conditions in space lead to the breaking down or the dysfunction of the production process

All this results in many of the body's key organs to be in jeopardy

It is also the main cause of wide ranging issues such as disrupted circadian rhythms to cardiovascular alterations .

Solution

Extract mitochondrial cells from the organism and suspend them in a matrix .

But the matrix should be designed such that when it's inserted back in the body whilst it's still in full function hence overcoming mitochondrial dysfunction

Problem - Circadian rythym disfunction (Sleep deprivation )

Extract hibernation genes from ground mice

Edit them using CRISPR Cas 9 such that they can switch on and switch off after a certain number of hours

Hence conquering the sleep deprivation problem

Hackathon Journey

Participating in this hackathon has been quite the journey .

Being given 48 hours to come up with not just the typical science fair project that we were used to but a NASA project was something that we never saw ourselves doing .

But nevertheless we did it .

Working with people you have never met before ,working online by the way ,whilst having school and preparing for the ongoing exams has equipped us with the skills we will one day require to be real time scientists .

Above all getting connected to amazing young scientists out there has been a game changer for most of us who are passionate about putting our minds together as young scientists and bringing out The Next Big Thing
