High-Level Project Summary

Our card game is designed to make the player more aware of the difficulties that astronauts face in space and leaving organisms that could face this stresses. The most important value of the game is that it provides a kind of education, which is knowledge of outer space and its problems, to the user in an easy and enjoyable way.

Detailed Project Description

The game explains exactly the problems and challenges facing astronauts in outer space and presents solutions to these challenges by collecting abilities from living organisms, each of which distinguishes an attribute that can overcome a specific challenge in space. After starting the digital edition of the game and choosing 'play' from the menu, the player will get a space challenge statement and four cards to choose from, each having living organisms on them and a hint on the creature's super ability, and in the hard edition, playing is the same as in the digital version, but the difference is that the player will have a booklet containing the challenges and cards, each card with the challenge number written on it from the back. And the benefits of the game are trying to make learning about space, its harsh conditions, living organisms, and their amazing abilities more fun and we wish to remove the stigma around "learning" since we believe true learning is about having fun, and only when we have that mindset can we enjoy learning and scientific discovery again.

In the hard edition of the game, we use some tools which are Scissors, glue, a ruler, a pencil, a stapler, and a Canson sheet, and use each tool in the right place. where we used scissors to cut the cards in the right shape and to cut the Canson sheet. We used the ruler to measure the lengths of cards and paper and we used the sticky tape to stick the challenges sheetes in the Canson paper, which supports it and makes it stronger, as well as the cards

Then we stapled the challenge papers in the form of a book, and we finished the game in the digital edition (software ), the game uses lua as its coding language and love2d as its studio.

Space Agency Data

NASA provided a lot of information about the challenges facing astronauts and explained some of them in detail, which made us know the challenges better and understand everything about them. A great example of this an article by Canadian Space Agency(https://www.asc-csa.gc.ca/eng/astronauts/space-medicine/concerns.asp) which gave us valuable information about how space affects the human body.

The Canadian Space Agency also provided us with how specialist in space medicine have addressed the implications of spaceflight on the health of the astronauts (https://www.asccsa.gc.ca/eng/publications/health-beyond-report-advisory-council-deep-space-healthcare.asp#appendix-b), which helped us to think of finding more solutions, such as finding living organisms with distinctive abilities that can overcome the challenges of space.

And all of this information, when we collected it, we applied the idea correctly, whether it was the digital edition or the hard edition.

Hackathon Journey

It was a fun experience where we met many people of various ages, each approaches their challenge in their own unique and creative ways, there were also volunteers and mentors who helped us and gave us tips and feedback while we worked on the project.

We learned from the hackathon a lot, we learned how to manage teamwork and distributing to each member work based on their skills and what they enjoy.

when we saw this challenge, we immediately felt a connection since education is often boring, we wanted to change that, we thought for a bit on how to combine learning and having fun, and when you think of fun, you think of games, and so we chose to make an education game allowing you to learn about space and the wondrous powers of living organisms while having fun,

And when we started working, we faced our fair share of problems, such as us underestimating how complex it could be, yet we adapted, and we used a totally new and different way for us.

Finally, we thank all the organizers and Mentors who have been helping us throughout the Hackathon, where the organizers have been providing us everything we want, whether Materials or the Internet or not, and Mentors have been helping us when we have a mistake in one part of the writing.
