EFFECT OF SPACEFLIGHT (MARS) ON BIOLOGY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF HOUSE RATS (RATTUS RATTUS)

High-Level Project Summary

Rattus rattus is a medium sized rat with relatively large ears and a tail that is nearly always longer than the body. Individuals weigh between 70 and 300g , they are between 16 and22cm in head and body length and a tail of 19cm or longer males are longer and heavier than the females. Many members of the species are black in color with a lighter coloured ventral belly. The species is often divided into subspecies based upon color patterns, which can occur in any combination of black, white, grey and agouti.

Detailed Project Description

The research provides information on how space flight affects the biology and physiology of organisms in a planet away from the home planet (earth); possibility of survival, adaptation, thrive and reproduction of rats in a vacuum in outer space.

We hope that our research will be able to prove the survival of organisms in another planet that is not earth; Mars was chosen because of its similarities with earth.

The tools required would be a vacuum of a space of 200sqm with basic life support equipments provided. The rats would be tagged for easy identification and observation.

Hackathon Journey

In Nigeria, hackathon is not well-known to all, may be to some.

Being a participant, this global and huge event is a lifetime moment to all team CODERS.

We had some amazing talent in our midst, such as Programmer, frond and back end developers, biologist, content writer and climates researcher, to inspire contribute for the successful of our project,

During two days, the whole teams comes together as one to focus on humanity and Earth’s biggest challenges and provides a possible solution to tackle it.

We think about the legacy we want to leave for future generations.

Because We believed that together we can make it better, and with the popular saying; that what worth doing is worth doing well.
