Detailed Project Description
Our game is a simple yet informative way to learn about space travel, the concept behind the game is straight forward , you are a super hero who is on the way to Mars,
On the way there are hazards which you could survive by using an ability that is either acquired or in-born,
When you step on a question mark the person next to you draws a question card, he then reads a fact that he could lie about, and you have to determine if he is being truthful or is lying , if you answer correctly you avoid punishment otherwise you go back 2 steps.
On the way to Mars there is a black hole that if you step at the entrance will take you forward to it's exit or if you step on the exit it will take you back to the entrance.
And there is a surprise card if you step on a location marked with a star, the surprise cards are split in three categories a hazard, an ability and a special card.
Space Agency Data
We used data from NASA and from the CANADIAN SPACE AGENCY from the resources section in the challenge , we took a look at the hazards of human spaceflight ,we took a look at how different organisms handle space and how the human body react to the changes in space. We took inspiration from these sources and created a fun game that also teaches.
Hackathon Journey
It was a new different experience for sure, We learned a lot of things about the human body, organisms and space, We took this challenge as it is different from our domain and a chance to learn something completely new and different, When we were developing this project we took a simple approach , we did not include any tech (which is our main domain) and instead chose to build a board game that could be used anywhere anytime even in space.
