The James Webb Telescope (JWST) Explorer is an interactive application created in the Python programming language which educates the user about the fantastic discoveries made possible by the JWST, with the use of high definition images and miscellaneous questions. The application has a three-leveled system, where the successive levels increase in difficulty. It has multiple games like a guess the image game, etc. It is extremely important in order to help people understand more about the JWST and actually enjoy it, so that they really understand everything.
The James Webb Telescope (JWST) Explorer is an interactive application created in the Python programming language which educates the user about the fantastic discoveries made possible by the JWST, with the use of high definition images and miscellaneous questions. Any person above the age of eight can use this application to learn about the JWST and its discoveries, which include star systems, nebulae, galaxies, exoplanets, etc. The application has a three-leveled system, where the successive levels increase in difficulty.
Level 1: It starts with an explanation of the fundamental philosophy underlying the creation of the JWST. It introduces the Cosmic Tarantula, discovered by the JWST, and explains some facts regarding the same.
Level 2: It expands on the philosophy behind the creation of JWST and explains some of the game-changing discoveries made by it. It also introduces the Phantom Galaxy, also discovered by the JWST.
Level 3: It introduces the Cartwheel Galaxy and its companions, and explains in detail the NIRCam and NIRSpec instruments of the JWST.
We also aimed at adding multiple other games such as guess the image game, where the player would be presented with two images and had to guess which one was taken by the JWST.
Used the images from the JWST provided by NASA from https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/WISE/images/index.html
We used the images in our game and showed the various pictures taken by the JWST.
During this hackathon, we got a chance to work on real life problems. During this process, we ourselves learned a lot about the JWST. We also got a chance to improve on certain skills like time management, etc.
We picked this challenge as it seemed like the only one which would affect people from our age groups (12-18). This challenge also allowed us to help people learn about interesting things with help of a game to make it even more fun and interactive.
While developing this project, we had decided to create multiple levels and games within that allowed to see the true capabilities of the JWST.
We faced many setbacks and missed my deadlines, but we still worked on it non stop to complete the project.
We would like to thank NASA and all the other space agencies for organizing this hackathon and giving us an opportunity to solve actual real life problems.
