High-Level Project Summary
Based from our love of video games, we want to create our own games and watch others play them. Lightyear Telescope is a game that will teach children about the capabilities of the JWST. The telescope needs to meet a variety of requirements in order to remain functional. The player will learn about it through collecting hints in the game along with solving the puzzle and finishing short tasks. This way, the player can be given knowledge and have fun at the same time. The Lightyear Telescope simplifies the JWST concept. The game engages the young audience and makes it enjoyable for them.

Detailed Project Description
How does Lightyear Telescope work?
Our game is a 3D first person perspective game that the players, Main character, play the role of an astronaut who receives a mission to explore Mars but unfortunately an unexpected accident happened and made JWST broken so our players need to explore the entire spaceship and find JWST construct to fixed it. We put information about JWST throughout the whole journey by telling stories, which consist of the information about JWST from NASA, every time players found its construct and We create short tasks or mini-game that use the information about JWST from when the players pick up constructs so players can learn and have fun at the same time.
What benefits does it have?
This game seeks to teach kids about telescopes while also being simple to play and understand. By resolving various short tasks and puzzle, Children's talents and thought processes are developed through the game.
What do you hope to achieve?
We hope it will be useful to children and others who are interested in JWST. And maybe they'll get the fun and challenge as a bonus!!
The future of our game
- Sound system development (sound effect, voice over, subtitles, etc.)
- Game saving system development
- Add more complex storyline and expand sequel story
- Add more short tasks and mini-games
Space Agency Data
We used the data that NASA writted Nasa blogs and Royal Museums Greenwich as the information and image to be as hint and item to solve the puzzle.
Hackathon Journey
We felt both excitement and apprehension while participating in this hackathon. We had reservations about our ability to complete the project from the minute we heard about the Space App Challenge to the moment we chosen the challenge for it. We are game-loving high school students. We have gotten interested in the study of celestial objects and space technologies after taking astronomy classes. When selecting this challenge for our project, we had no prior knowledge of JWST. Simple words, we merely intend to make a wonderful video game.
Since our teams chose the challenge, we have discovered a lot about the JWST's capabilities and the unique features that set it apart from other telescopes. We conducted the research by reading some of related Wikipedia pages and NASA's blogs.
What inspired us to do this project was the idea of how awesome it would be. To create a game that is educational and fun for children to be easy to understand.
We faced many difficulties during the work, but we were able to deal with them eventually. We would never have had such a great experience if we had not taken part in this hackathon. We have learned so much, not only about knowledge, but also about working as a team.
