WEBBUZZLE

High-Level Project Summary

We have developed a user-friendly HTML 5 game to help people learn and understand the immense capabilities of NASA's James Webb Space Telescope. This game involves ten levels of challenging puzzles which not only enhances the player's logical solving capabilities but also immerses the player into the beautiful universe which the JWST has shown us till now !

Detailed Project Description

Webbuzzle is a puzzle-based game solely developed with HTML5, Cascading Style Sheets(CSS) and JavaScript. This game comprises of 10 levels which includes the pictures related to James Webb Space Telescope(JWST) and the recent photographs captured by JWST. Since this game is developed on HyperText Markup Language(HTML), all you need is a browser like Google Chrome to play this game. With this game, we hope that the player would take this game as a challenge and learn about the real power of JWST through the images they solve as a puzzle. This game would also enhance their IQ and logical problem-solving skills.

Hackathon Journey

“The ultimate inspiration is the deadline” - Nolan Bushnell (Founder of Atari)

Our Journey in this Hackathon was very short since we came to know about NASA's Space App Challenge only on the 25th of September . We were very disappointed since we only had five days to think of something . We are passionate about programming but we were n00b$ in JavaScript which now makes up a big part of our game. With all hopes faded into blue sky we abandoned the plan of making a game, as it was natural as a human being to do so ! But then came one of our buddies, who told us that even now it is possible. She encouraged us to start doing something as it was better than doing nothing. After much introspection, we decided to start working on the game about which we only had a vague idea . To our surprise, after one day we came up with a structure for our game and it started taking shape in front of our eyes. We felt it awesome and it boosted our morale to continue ! In the middle we faced a lot of challenges, prominently errors in JavaScript, which we were learning and applying at the same time. After a couple of sleepless nights and with the deadline in mind as the ultimate inspiration, we came up with our first HTML5 game which uses only HTML, CSS and JavaScript ! Finally we had something, we couldn't make it to the ultimate perfection which the Space App Challenge desires but we were convinced that we made a working game in a very short period of time. We also learned a big lesson, that telling excuses never makes you great. You have to keep that first step and work hard till you reach your goal.

We would like to thank everyone who encouraged us in our journey; our friends, professors. We would also like to express our gratitude to NASA for organizing such amazing hackathons.
