Mind Mirror, a series of personality test and game, help you to find your deep soul.

High-Level Project Summary

Mind Mirror is a game to help people learn about the James Webb Space Telescope’s powerful capabilities while understanding their inner minds at the same time. The first step is, Know Yourself, a video introducing the features of the JWST. The second step is, Explore Potentials, a personality test with music and photos that guides people to roam in the universe. People may have a peek at the unknown side of their souls through this test. The final step is the game, Bricks Breaker, which symbolizes people crossing the limits of each level by breaking bricks. And get the whole picture of those amazing photos after success, just like JWST reveals previously hidden regions of the universe.

Detailed Project Description

Mind Mirror

What exactly does it do?

JWST is like a time machine, which could trace back to the formation of the first star and galaxy by its powerful infrared vision and big primary mirror. So does Mind Mirror. You have a chance to touch the deepest area of your soul through Mind Mirror. We have divided Mind Mirror into three gradual steps.

Step1: Know Yourself

Our team personates JWST as a young girl in our video. She was born on December 25th, 2021, the launch day of the JWST. And she has a flexible body, which is referred to JWST's folding structure. There's also a simple post-launch timeline in the video to impress people on how tough the challenge of launching JWST is.

Step2: Explore Potentials

We make a personality test, Mind Mirror, which helps people to explore their unrevealed potentials. In this five-minute test, users choose the options which are more likely to show the feeling when they see the gorgeous photos taken by different space telescopes. After the test, each user will be assigned to one of six types of personalities.

Step3: Break the Limits

Different levels of brick breaking are just like the process of spiritual growth and the self-breakthrough. Six levels of the game are separately representative of impatience, bad temper, fear, stubbornness, harmful relationship, and obstacles in life. After players clear all bricks in the game, they will see a magnificent starry sky, which indicates that there's a bright future awaits them.

To sum up, Mind Mirror is an interactive and educational game to help people know themselves better. Following the three steps mentioned above, people may achieve self-improvement and self-growth which could positively affect their career and personal life.

The tools we use

We build the main web framework with Flask based on Python 3.9. And we use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to develop the front end of the web page. We also create a GUI by Python and PyGame. Besides, we create virtual characters by using VRoidStudio and make videos by using Powtoon.

Hackathon Journey

The Space Runner is formed by five people. We are "internet friends", knowing each other in an online programming class. All of us only have three-month experience in Python programming. We all like to take on challenges, so we decided to participate in the NASA Hackathon Challenge.

We were so touched by lots of glorious photos taken by space telescopes, that we chose "Learning Through the Looking Glass" as our challenge. Everyone in our team plays different roles, we have a creative thinker, a near-native English speaker, a visual designer, a game maker, and a technical leader.

However, everything was so difficult for programming beginners like us. Especially, when we decided to display our work on the website, which needed lots of technical skills to build. And finally, we successfully make our thoughts become reality.

Here we would like to thank our teacher, Mr. Powen Ko, for his professional advice. Without him, we couldn't complete this challenge so perfectly.
