TELESCARD

High-Level Project Summary

Our team developed a new card game called "TELESCARD" . This game is suitable for people from all age including the youngsters and the elders. The challenge we took up is "Learning through the Looking Glass" with the objective to learn the capabilities and performance of JWST in a fun way. TELESCARD is the perfect solution as it is fun to play with while being informative at the same time. It allows players to know the names and the structures of different components in the universe. The game is important because it is easy to play and it helps people to learn more about the James Webb Telescope. At the same time, it can also intrigue more peoples' curiosity towards the infinite universe.

Detailed Project Description

TELESCARD is similar to the card game" Old Maid". The number of players is ranged from two to four players. First, each players will be randomly given ten cards. The players then will have to go through their own card and draw the matched pairs out and put it on the centre of the table before the game. During the game, each players need to draw one card from the player next to them. If there is matched pairs, the players have to draw them out; If not, the game will be continued. Whoever left the most cards in their hands will lose the game, while the player who finish drawing all their cards out will win the match. Moreover, TELESCARD is also a multi-function card. Some cards contain Q&A questions. When the player receive the card that has Q&A questions written on it, the players have to read out the questions and the answers on it which enables players to understand more about the James Webb Telescope. After sharing, the player will put the card in the centre of the table and the game will be continued. Besides, these cards can also be served as puzzles. There are fragments of pictures at the back of certain cards. After solving the puzzle, beautifuls pictures related to the universe will appear. The benefits of TELESCARD is that it is easy to understand and play. Apart from that, the cost of producing TELESCARD is extremely low and easy to be made. TELESCARD is almost multi-function which enables players to have more fun and it can be played repeatedly. Our team hope that people from all age can play this game and learn more about James Webb Telescope and the infinite universe. We hope that more people can be curious towards the mystery of the universe and contribute in the discovery and exploration of the universe.

Space Agency Data

The space agency data that our team used the most is the datas from official NASA website. We used the official NASA website to search the images that is captured by James Webb Telescope and the comparisons between the Hubble Space Telescope and James Webb Telescope. We also used the datas about the technologies and capabilities of James Webb Telescope that is showcased on the official website of NASA. Our inspiration comes from the beautiful images that is captured by the James Webb Telescope which inspires us to do researches and deliver the knowledge in a creative yet fun way.

Hackathon Journey

ESTHER ANG HUI EN

  • This is my first time joining the SPACE APPS CHALLENGE and I had a great time! Personally, I learnt a lot more about the universe especially about the James Webb Space Telescope and what it can do. I also learnt how to deliver a knowledge creatively through simple things like play cards. Most importantly, I realize that I am able to achieve big things with believe, trust, teamwork and dedication as our group managed to complete such a challenge within two days even with our busy schedule as a Form 6 student. I provided all the Q&A's to the group and also the idea of adding puzzles to the other side of the card. in addition, I edited the logo and trimmed the cards together with my teammates. First, I would like to thank NASA for organizing this challenge. Then, I would like to thank Mr. Teo for having the roadshow at out school to introduce this challenge to me. Also, I thank my parents for their support and also my teammates for their hard work and dedication to work together as a team to get this challenge done.

  • Space Apps was indeed a good one.. This project offer golden opportunity to me to learn more about space especially Huber Space Telescope and James Webb Space Telescope. I'm doing video editing and as a photographer during this project.

SAMUEL

I never think that I would join such an interesting activities like this! At first I have no idea about the knowledge about our universe but after this event, it definitely richen my knowledge towards the universe especially the James Webb Telescope. I also learn a lot of soft skills such as the correct ways to work with my teammates and learn how to express my own opinions. This event also make me realise how precious the time is because the time given for us to produce out our project is only two days. I search a lot of datas and images that is related to Hubble Space Telescope and James Webb Telescope and share it with my teammates so that we can all learn together. I would like to express my gratitude towards the NASA organisation for providing this golden opportunity for us to join this event. I would also like to thank my parents for supporting me in joining this competition. Most importantly, I would like to thank my teammates for helping me out with this competition. Without them, I definitely cant finish this competition alone.

We are inspired because we think that this challenge is very interesting and we want to know more about the universe especially the stars and JWST.

We resolve setbacks and challenges by being patient, persistent and always working together no matter what happened.
