The JWST Expedition with the Star hackers

High-Level Project Summary

We have created a quiz in scratch to help people understand more about the capabilities and the history of the James Webb Space Telescope(JWST). Through answering this quiz and understanding the right answer, people will not only achieve a greater knowledge and an enthusiastic behavior to the JWST 's achievements, but also will be waiting for even more powerful telescope launches by NASA

Detailed Project Description

We made our project to help people understand about the JWST. We did it in Scratch . We hope every one likes it. Although its not much, we worked as hard as we could. To start the quiz, you would have to press the rocket ship. There is a total of 10 questions that have two options each. For each right answer you would be awarded with one point. But it is not about the score, its the knowledge that counts , right?

Almost all the resources we have used are from NASA's Space apps challenges website but some resources were taken from Google also.

Space Agency Data

Almost all of the information we used in our project is from the NASA Space apps website . We have only used two space related pictures to use as background but those are freely-available images from Scratch.

Hackathon Journey

Our team, UWR Star Hackers' journey began when it was announced in the school that an orientation class for a hackathon was going to be held. We, being curious, signed up for it. After the orientation class, we were asked whether we wanted to stay ,and as a team make solutions to one of the challenges given by NASA. Most kids, including us, agreed. Some days later, we had our first class which lasted 2 hours. In the meeting ,we understood the space apps challenges and how we could make solutions for them. We were divided into two groups because there were 11 of us, and Space apps allowed only 6 to a team. And this is where our team, initially known as GROUP 1, came into being. Throughout the next sessions we discussed challenges that we liked and we could complete those within the given short time we had. At first we decided on different challenges but we finally chose one : "Learning through the Looking Glass". We proceeded with the challenge and learned more about it from the NASA Space apps challenge website and discussed ways to solve it. But then, just as it was going smoothly, we faced problems. Two of our team members had to leave due to travel issue and other reasons. We were all confused and stressed but in the end we worked it out. We have learned so much from this experience. We collected information and made a nice and small quiz. It was a teamwork! We really hope you like it.

We would like to thank all the mentors and coordinators of Unique Word Robotics(UWR) for introducing us to such a hackathon and giving us a chance to show the light in ourselves( another reason we named our team Star Hackers). Special thanks to Jithin ma'am, Akhila ma'am and Abhinav sir from UWR for helping us throughout the project and mentoring us.

Special thanks to St. Thomas Public School(our school) Headmistress Ms Lenu ma'am and our class teachers, Ms.Shefsyn ma'am, Ms.Susan ma'am and Ms. Elizabeth ma'am for insisting us to join this challenge and to motivate us when it was tough. We would also like to thank our parents who helped us in so many ways and helped us stay in a positive attitude for two days. There were so many people who motivated us and helped us along the way that we might have missed out a few names but we thank you all from the bottom of the hearts for helping us stay strong throughout our hackathon journey...
