How Does the Climate Change Affect You?

High-Level Project Summary

Our project aims to raise awareness on climate change and its adverse impact, with the help of data and visualization tools made available by NASA we were able to analyze and present the devastating impact ofrecord rains, floods and landslides caused by climate change in Pakistan recently. By choosing this project, we want to bring the world leaders and people closer to strive for this common goal – to make our planet earth sustainable for our future generations.

Detailed Project Description

Climate change is defined as a long-term (30+ year) change in the average weather patterns that have come to define Earth's local, regional, and global climates. It includes global warming but also refers to a broader range of changes occurring on our planet, such as shrinking mountain glaciers, accelerating ice melt in Greenland, Antarctica, and the Arctic, rising sea levels, ocean acidification, coral bleaching, and extreme weather. Natural processes such as cyclical ocean patterns, volcanic activity, changes in the Sun's energy output, and variations in Earth's orbit can all contribute to climate change. Human activities, particularly fossil fuel burning and deforestation, have contributed to changes in Earth's climate observed since the early twentieth century, increasing heat-trapping greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere and raising the average surface temperature. The average temperature of the planet has risen by 0.98 degrees Celsius since 2000, but if this trend continues, we will see a further rise of 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2030. Recently Pakistan received nearly 190% more rain than its 30-year average from June to August 2022. The government declared a national emergency following catastrophic flooding that affected more than 33 million people, destroyed 2 million homes, and resulted in nearly 1,600 deaths.

Space Agency Data

We used NASA resources to better understand NASA's role in climate change, to educate people, to mitigate problems, and to provide full and open access to data in order to protect our planet. NASA's Earth observatory images provided a comprehensive view for gathering useful information.

Hackathon Journey

Our journey is one-of-a-kind, providing a fresh perspective on our research. We chose this challenge to educate people and help the community. We did our best to depict climate change and its consequences.

In this journey, we would like to thank our teachers and parents for supporting us always and guiding us whenever we needed help!
