Climate Anxiety

High-Level Project Summary

My project is about climate anxiety. As a youth climate activist, I am anxious, scared, uncertain, and angry at the state of what my future may hold. Navigating all of these emotions while also being a student, preparing for my future, and maintaining a social life, has all become overwhelming when we add the climate crisis to the mix. My video is meant to draw emotion, and depict what it is like to see all of these horrifying news articles and "dooms scrolling" and what it does to a persons mental health (especially young people)

Detailed Project Description

I do not have coding or any high level experience, and to be honest, my project will most likely be the lowest quality of all (I made it on imovie with the lack of experience and education I have on these coding topics). But what I do have is a voice that I intend to use for the good of people, animals, and the planet. I don't think climate communication needs to be elaborate, it needs to be understandable and relatable. As a youth climate activist, my main tool of communication is the power of my voice. I hope my voice and communication through my video will bring awareness to the topic of climate anxiety.

Space Agency Data

I took a different approach, From the data that was provided, my brain became overwhelmed and anxious. These feelings inspired me to make my video on climate anxiety.

Hackathon Journey

I was inspired to do this challenge as I saw it on Twitter from Peter Kalmus. I have been following him, and I love his content, but a lot of times it brings me great sadness and anxiety as a chronically ill, youth activist. I was inspired to show how climate anxiety can feel isolating and defeating, but that we are not alone.
