How Climate Change Affect us in Taiwan?

High-Level Project Summary

The thing we tried to develop as a video, is to shout out to the world about the problems we meet in Taiwan when coming to climate change and also to encourage the world to make changes just in our daily life just like our team name: JustChange. The problem we need to solve is letting the whole wide world know how this little island, Taiwan, faced serious climate change. We need to let the world know because Taiwan is poorly supported by international diplomatic criteria, and using this Kind of way of advocacy is a way to let the world to help Taiwan and let Taiwan help the world to battle climate change.

Detailed Project Description

Our project is a video that provides examples and information about the changes Taiwan faced due to climate change, and also differences. The video also explains the specific details of each problem, with clear clarification on why each one is a problem. The project works as a form of advocacy to raise awareness of what's happening and experiencing in Taiwan. It works since raising awareness helps others understand, and raises the low profile and recognition nation. We hope to raise enough awareness in the world with our project to be able to give others a sense of the seriousness of the issue. We used the software iMovie to make our short documentary.

Space Agency Data

The only information we used in our process was the website that NASA provided(https://climate.nasa.gov/), the website provided information we needed to perform. Actually, another part of how this website was inspired me was the criteria it discussed. The website has fellow criteria such as Carbon Dioxide, global temperature, arctic sea ice extent, ice sheets, sea level, and ocean warning. These criteria reminded us that the sea level rise and global temperature heavily affected our island, and we used these ideas and extend them to another topic we want to tell. Also, the reason why we choose this challenge was also inspired by the “ARSET CLIMATE TRAINING” (https://appliedsciences.nasa.gov/what-we-do/capacity-building/arset/arset-climate-trainings). The ARSET is an online class system, we can see how NASA is using the resources they got to let the whole world pay just a bit more attention to climate change. When we see that, we were instantly inspired, we want to let the world battle against climate change. Use a video to connect the world together, let them know what is the problem on the island, and let us know what is happening to them too.

Hackathon Journey

Our experience with space apps has been absolutely amazing from start to finish. First of all, it was very clearly organized and easy to read, and finishing my projects and specifications was also fine. Finding the different challenges and also specifications were also easy, and required minimal effort. In this journey, we also learned a lot more about the challenges and problems Taiwan is facing as of now, and also got us to pay more attention to the subtle changes around where we live. We also learned a lot more information about how Taiwan is attempting to fix it's problems, and also to contribute and stop climate change. Another thing that we learned from working with others is that in the project, we needed to cooperate well together, and discuss together very often. This also gave us a clear understanding on what each of us will do, and make working much more effective. Our team was inspired to choose this topic because being students that have lived in Taiwan for a decade, we have noticed substantial differences and changes to the climate and weather Taiwan has faced in the recent years. Another inspiration to choosing this topic is that we have all learned about climate change for so long, and already have a deep understanding and information background. We had a problem that was us starting late on the project, since we only began last Sunday, our work had to be doubled and with time shortened. We resolved this problem by working extra hard with the little free time we had on our hands, and also to split work fairly and work much more effectively.
