High-Level Project Summary
The present work has as its main objective to encourage youngpeople to adopt positive attitudes, in the face of the problemsthat humanity has been going through due to climate change. The activity developed by the group was the creation of aneducational vídeo, presenting data, telling the story of thecommunity in which they are inserted and the creative way theyelaborated to solve their problems. The importance of the workfocuses on the involvement of young people throughout theprocess and recognition of the value of their participation.

Detailed Project Description
The problem:
This fact can be perceived by the cry of help from the planet, in the form
of its climatic events. The climatic variations of recent years point to
occurrences of natural disasters such as heat waves, floods, inundations,
fast-paced melting of glaciers, landslides and increased pollution of the air
we breathe, causing many health issues.
According to studies conducted by NASA, the absorption of heat on planet
Earth has increased considerably in recent years. Data such as those found
at https://climate.nasa.gov/ are frightening!
The study points out that the imbalance is directly related to the decrease
in the reflection of energy from the planet and the increase of gases such
as CO2, CH4, N2O, O3 and water vapor in the atmosphere. The data shows
that in the present day the changes can intensify the level of carbon
dioxide in 419° the Global temperature that already is of 1.01° since 1880.
(1)
The 2022 IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) also makes it
clear that human actions are causing an imbalance in nature and will
directly impact people's health and the infrastructure of cities. (2) The life
of millions of people and many ecosystems are in danger.
Data from NASA shows that drought in Brazil is worse than previously
thought; as Northeast of the country lost 49 trillion liters of water
Bahia also suffers from drought, as well as other cities in Brazil and the
world.
The last time that the state recorded 100% of the territory affected by
drought was in March 2019. According to the survey, about 55% of the
territory had moderate drought, 44% mild drought and 1% severe
drought, in the survey of March this year.
On air pollution, another serious global problem, puts the WHO (World
Health Organization) on alert. About 99% of the global population breathe
air of compromised quality.
Harmful air pollution affects people and the environment, and according
to the World Health Organization, air pollution is responsible for around 7
million deaths worldwide each year (3)
The Brazilian Ministry of Health points to a 14% increase in deaths caused
by air pollution in 10 years.
In addition to human losses, there is also economic damage. The World
Bank has estimated that the global cost of health damage from air
pollution is $8.1 trillion, with people in low- and middle-income countries
most affected. impacts requires free access to real-time air-quality
information and good air-quality, that this partnership will provide. (3)
The impact:
The number of deaths caused by excessive rainfall in Brazil is the highest
in recent years.
The rains in Bahia affected 600,000 people during the year 2021, directly
affected by flooding and landslides. Events like these are also common in
our city, Salvador.
In April 2022 residents accounted for the damage after 6 days of rain. A
volume 29% higher than the historical average was recorded in Salvador.
The neighborhoods most affected by these problems, caused by climate
change, were the neighborhoods of Boa Viagem, Calçada, Ribeira, Mares,
Roma in the Cidade Baixa region and in Subúrbio Ferroviário.
The risks are known worldwide, it is important to invest in educational
policies and study ideas that focus on climate change.
Our reality:
In our city, due to its physical characteristics, the geography is
characterized by the sloping relief, the tropical climate and coastal
vegetation. In the period of heavy rains there is an increase in cases of
landslides, also causing the deficiency of drainage and basic sanitation.
Salvador has already recorded almost 30 landslides and falling trees due to
rain.
In Capelinha do São Caetano, where our School Community is located, it is
common for classes to be suspended to shelter displaced families during
the period of heavy rains. The houses are located on slopes, considered
risk areas. In an accumulation of 150mm of water, sirens are triggered so
that families immediately vacate their homes.
The Professor Antônio Carvalho Guedes Municipal School receives these
families with the support of the competent authorities to host and carry
out social actions.
It is necessary to implement really effective public policies to minimize this
problem.
Hack At Schools has completely impacted our lives. First, we experienced
the opportunity to have NASA representatives in our school, a reality we
couldn’t ever dreamt of, in a three-day marathon.
We were challenged, what future do we want?
Teams were formed promoting the integration of the entire school
community with the objective of creating innovative and creative ideas in
the face of the challenges launched.
With Hack At Schools, we had the opportunity to expand our knowledge
of the planet and space and, above all, reflect on the problems and
impacts of our actions. The result was the creation of countless proposals,
projects and ideas that present possibilities to change the future.
To our surprise, the involvement of the entire school community brought
incredible results. We traveled to the moon taking groceries, created an
intelligent manhole, thinking about the difficulties that our community
often suffers from flooding, and the revolutionary idea of building an
electric car with two engines that feed-back and a reverse motor, which
can mean reducing fossil fuel consumption, presented in a video.
In our video we challenge young people to think about their actions on
climate change, describe our goal and present our revolutionary idea.
Watch until the end, you won't regret it.
The intention of the Novo Futuro Team is to provoke young people from
all over the planet to rethink their own actions and the impacts they
cause.
We are about 7,040,000 young people according to the last school census.
The actions, ideas and interventions of these young people can mean a
real opportunity to change the future of the world.
We need to believe in our potential.
The Hack At School experience showed the young people involved in this
journey how important we are in the process of transformation and make
the changes required to preserve our planet. We were challenged, join
this challenge with us. NOW, WE CHALLENGE YOU.
Space Agency Data
Data from space agencies was instrumental in informing the line we would use of content to inform the youth impacted by our video, as well as further informing our team about climate change and its impact. With that, after we high school students make use of the resources made available by NASA, we are now much more able to perceive and analyze the events in our lives where we live, in addition to making our video even more complete in order to educate other young people around of the world.

Hackathon Journey
The Hackathon journey was sensational for our team, it all started with our team participating in a Hackathon within the public schools of Salvador, where we were champions and then invited to participate in Nasa Space apps salvador. In this event, we developed solutions to help the planet with the carbon issue and, consequently, solutions were created for climate change.
During the event we had access to a really cool structure, access to computers and to really NASA level tools and content! And for us this was certainly transformative and we ended the marathon weekend proud of what we built and the impact our project will generate.
We would like to thank all the staff at our school, all the staff at the event's organization in the city of Salvador and the Caffeine team for their support and support on our journey.
