High-Level Project Summary

Our challenge was How does Climate change affect us challenge. In our video we talked about two major problems faced by Pakistan due to Climate change which are, Floods and Droughts. In our video we suggested two solutions to each of the problem. For floods our suggested solutions were 1. Construction of Dams and 2. Planting Eucalyptus and Mangroves trees to help prevent floods. And the solutions we suggested for droughts were 1. Using renewable resources instead of nonrenewable ones and 2. using solar pumps as solar pumps doesn't require electricity to pump out water, it is ecofriendly, it has a long operating limit.

Detailed Project Description

Our video talks about the heavy floods and droughts in Pakistan caused by climate change. Pakistan contributes to 1% carbon production in the world but is experiencing severe floods and droughts. In 2022 Pakistan faced two conditions, from March to June parts of Sindh and Balochistan had severe droughts which impacted livelihood of people and agriculture sector. From June to August heavy monsoon rains and glacier melting in Himalayas caused overflow of Indus river which caused floods in four provinces. Government and people of Pakistan should work for plantations around river banks and construction of dams and we should use solar pumps instead of using pumps that require electricity to work and we should use renewable sources of energy instead of non renewable. Our project spreads awareness about climate change, it tells about how climate change has effected Pakistan and it also suggested the solutions for floods and droughts.

Hackathon Journey

NASA Space App Challenge is an international competition and we took part in it for the first time. It was a two days competition and we learned a lot. We listened to the moral speeches of the guests that were too inspiring. We got to know about the challenges and search on it. We had a lot of fun, we met new people, we did some activities, we saw a theater that was amazing, and another guest gave us a speech in a humorous tone. Next day we did the same activities and presented our challenges in front of the judges. This competition will be a memorable experience in our life. We would like to thank you to everyone who organized this whole event in Pakistan as we got such a big opportunity.
