Solar Tracker

High-Level Project Summary

Solar energy is rapidly becoming an important and viable means of renewable energy resource. Despite being ubiquitously present, harvesting it presents a major challenge, owing to the limited efficiency of solar array cells. One of the ways to enhance the efficiency of solar panels, as well as decreasing cost is the use of solar tracker. A tracking mechanism moves and positions the solar array, so as to achieve maximum power output. While a tracker can be either a single axis or dual axis. This paper aims to demonstrate the design and construction of a prototype for dual axis solar tracking system. Dual axis trackers have obvious advantages over single axis trackers. Dual axis trackers have

Detailed Project Description

A solar tracker is a device used for orienting a photovoltaic solar array panel toward the sun for maximum power output. For regions lying along the equator, there are no significant changes in the apparent position of the sun during the various seasons; therefore use of single axis tracker having one degree of freedom will suffice. For regions lying far away from equator, the position of the sun keeps changing not only with the time of the day, but also around the year during various seasons, thereby dual axis trackers need to be employed. An additional circuitry and complexity are involved with dual axis trackers, but is worth the pain; as they prove to be more efficient in tracking the sun. The level to which efficiency can be improved depends on the efficiency of the tracking system and the weather conditions. More efficient a tracker is, more is the efficiency of the solar panel. Efficiency will also be considerably enhanced on a bright sunny day as opposed to a cloudy day.

As the solar panel will aim towards the sun the solar panel will collect maximum light and convert it to electricity.

Hackathon Journey

we was inspired by the sun flower how it follows the sun so we made an elctromechanical system which

follows the sun we solved a lot of challenges during building the working model as the weight of the panel and we chose arduino as a microcontroller to control the project and servos to move the panels .
