Creative Data Display with the Parker Solar Probe

High-Level Project Summary

Our solution was to create a website (the website can be translated into any language through the browser), where people could interact with 3D models of the satellites. We also created a game for the audience to interact and learn while having fun.Our website is important because it helps people to know more about space and that even far away, the sun affects our planet with storms and solar flares.

Detailed Project Description

We made a website and a game. To make the website, (the website can be translated into any language through the browser), interactive and inviting, we use 3D satellites, letting the public move and get to know more about the satellites that we talk about on the site. We also explain about space weather, solar storms and solar eruptions. To change tabs, the viewer can click on buttons that we leave on the website, in a more interactive way.

About the game we created in Javascript and used pixel art images. You can move/guide the spacecraft through space learning about space weather (which we also explain on the website), where the spacecraft explains about it and what it does.

Space Agency Data

We used data from several sources, with the main one being the NASA website. The most striking data provided us with more ideas for the interaction of the project, and especially for the creation of the game.

We use information about: magnetic activity within the Sun, solar flares, solar storm, radiation, Parker Solar Probe, niobium, molybdenum, tungsten and zirconium, SOHO, SDO, GOES.

Hackathon Journey

Our experience was intense. There were moments of challenge and tension that we thought about giving up, but we were strong and managed to overcome our problems. In the end we were happy to participate in this challenge. We learn to work under pressure with little time to step out of our comfort zone.

We chose this challenge because we were interested in the subject and found a cool way to develop the solution. With conversations and discussions, we solve our setbacks and challenges. We would like to thank the NASA organization and mentorship that was available at all times to help us. In particular Vanessa Guitta who praised our team for being composed only of girls.
