High-Level Project Summary
Venus may have gradually slowed down and then reversed its direction. This action can be triggered by a few things , including interaction with some magnetic field or the atmospheric tides, or the combination of both. Venus's atmosphere would have been the first part of the planet to start rotating retrograde after spin down, then they may have provided the rest of force necessary to get the whole planet move in backward direction but this idea was also not clear due to lack of information.

There are many theories regarding the rotation of Venus from which one of the earliest theory was that Venus may have been hit so hard by an asteroid that it reversed its direction but the theory is thrown out in 1965 by two scientist (GORDON PETTENGIL and IRWINT SHAPIRO) who work with original radar data, they said that
"Possibilities are limitless mainly by one's imagination, supporting evidence is rather harder to come by"
Because when you find out the idea cannot be acceptable, it turns out that anything big enough to reverse Venus's rotation would also destroy the planet due to a high impact of 1000 times high Kinetic energy (K.E), so that's why this idea was droppe

Venus spins the same way it always has, just at some point it turns upside down. This could have happened because of processes within Venus interior structure and its atmosphere. Venus has layers like Earth, it has a crust, mantle and core. When the planet rotates, the core and mantle experience friction. Venus also has a really thick atmosphere and due to the Sun's gravity and heat, it experiences tides along with the rest of the planet, so the hypothesis says that core -mantle friction and its atmosphere tides could both put some torque on the planet that flips Venus over. Some models suggest that it might rotate only if Venus is found with an initial tilt of about 90 degree but others show that it might work with less than initial tilt. Either way, the idea is weird. The planet flips itself, this idea is kind of a mind blogging.
