Nifty Tool

High-Level Project Summary

This documentation is about the “Nifty tool” production of the Dark Matter Vendetta team. Nifty tool is a game and an art tool at the same time. The user chooses a designated grey-scaled image of Jupiter from Juno cam. Then an option of a setting bar that alters color effects gradients on screen eg. Hue, RGB, etc…would be visible. Followed by random 7 questions are going to pop each at a time and progressing from level to level .Moving forward, customization platforms would be shown such as eye, nose, etc…after each level.

Detailed Project Description

We have developed a game application to show different images of Jupiter. It has two purposes:

  • First is a fun and useful game
  • Second artistic through Jupiter's images.

It's a quiz game that has scientific questions about Jupiter. These questions will help the users to know more about Jupiter in many ways.

Every time the user answers the questions correctly they get an award, The award is to apply some filters on the image of Jupiter like changing the colors and brightness then adding some customization like eyes, nose, mouth, …etc.

At the end of the game, The user can give the resulting avatar a name, and also they can save the image.

The benefit of the app is that it is a fun and scientific app that benefits the user and enjoys using the app.

The purpose of this app is to let the users and children know more about Jupiter in a different and fun way.

We have used:

Figma for the GUI, Pycharm for image processing and backend, krita (photoshop) for photo editing, Junocam website to get the images, Quizizz website for the question and Remove background website to get transparent background images.

Space Agency Data

The JunoCam website provides snapshots as striped images of Jupiter, these images are three JunoCam-generated grayscale images representing the red, green, and blue light bands, These raw grayscale images of the red/green/blue (RGB) bands are used together to produce color RGB images.

After the RGB images are generated we use them in our application, apply image processing to them and add customizations to them as mentioned before.

Hackathon Journey

We had a very great experience, we learned many things about Jupiter and knew more about image processing and GUI.

We had much fun here and wish to repeat this experiment if we had the chance.

Jupiter’s wonderful texture and the presentation of the challenge are what inspired us to choose this challenge, also we all had a passion to know more about outer space and traveling to different planets.

We wanted to spread information about Jupiter and outer space in a fun and different way.

We have been through many problems and errors, to solve them we searched for solutions and cast them to fit our problems and solved them. Also, the mentors helped us in many ways and did their best for us.

We want to thank the mentors for their great efforts with us, the organizers of this great event, and the sponsors. Thanks to everyone who participated in the NASA space apps hackathon.
