High-Level Project Summary
Cats on Mars (Kissat Marssissa) is an illustration to the fact that we make the move/transition to planet Mars as smooth as possible for any creature (even cats). Moving to Mars is a big transformation. Many uncertainities come into play. Therefore, the team modeled basic furniture: one item to be used for multiple purposes.

Detailed Project Description

Attached is a picture of the brainstorming session.
Modeled the wheel and a handle that can be used with different heads for multiple purposes.
The wheel is going to serve as a method to move on Mars. And the handle will be used with different heads: screwdriver, spoon, fork, and knife. We used metal 3D-printer for wheels and plastic 3D-printer for the screw driver.
Space Agency Data
The article 'Deep Space Habitability Design Guidelines Based on the NASA NextSTEP Phase 2 Ground Test Program' published by National Aeronautics and Space Administration is informative. The team was inspired by the article and gained strong knowledge on what could be considered a necessity and what might be a secondary tool to save resources. Especially that resources are limited. Living on Mars for a year is extremely challenging. Certain items the team saw as a necessity from the point of view of a terrestre. However, from a spatial point of view in turned out that it should be integrated into other tools or not created at all.
Hackathon Journey
- Learned many new skills/improved PPT skills.
- Experience sharing with all participants especially to find solutions for the different constraints
- inspired by the presence of an expert member in using 3D modeling software and previous working experience and skills that can be used learned in the university of Vaasa.
- setbacks/challenges included scale down items, one member felt down for a while, uploading project link.
- We would like to thank event organizers and every person who worked on making this SpaceApps challenge on its current version.
