Detailed Project Description
PRINTR (3d printing database for Mars)
Considerations about printers and materials
We envisioned the polymer 3d printer to use PE as it can be synthesized on mars using CO2 and H2O and is resilient against temperatures as low as -100 Celsius while having ideal mechanical properties for the use cases. The printer will utilize FDM technology to create the parts.
The metal 3d printer will be printing TiTi6Al4V Titanium-Aluminum Alloy with SLS.

PRINTR Database
We built the PRINTR database to make it easier for astronauts the access 3D printing. Here is its interactive prototype.
All information about designed parts for the challenge can be accessed through the interactive prototype.
Users can browse files, send them to be printed, access assembly instructions and other details. If necessary the users can download editable files and modify to their needs.
Models Created
We were able to come up with tools and objects that were multi-purpose and had considerations for repairability, modularity and ease of use.
- Rover Wheel
- Multi-Purpose Pliers
- Multi-Purpose Modular Hammer, Pick, Mallet
- Ziptie
- Stake for outdoors
Process
This is our miro board we have used during the process. We have documented everything and collaborated to generate ideas here.

Hackathon Journey
We started with 6 members but 4 of the members were not active and left the team. Due to this we had time management issues and could not complete what we wanted to in the 2 days we had.
We collaborated through miro during the process. We have documented everything and collaborated to generated ideas there. This was very efficient to organize and access data and ideas.
We researched what astronauts need for a mission, what are the essential tools and what the best materials for these tools and designs would be that suit the martian environment.
Tools and object made for space were analyzed which provided a ton of insight towards coming up with designs. We were able to come up with tools and objects that were multi-purpose and had considerations for repairability, modularity and ease of use.
