Journey to the Sun

High-Level Project Summary

We developed an AR app for young audiences. In our app, we want to give the details about Parker’s story. We want to make it looks real, so we used AR in our app. We model the sun, Parker Solar Probe, and space. It seems like a game but it’s not. We used animations, videos, and colors so it can be more interesting for them. When the user enters the app, it will show the space. Users can observe the space. The Parker will travel at each point, it will show animation and a piece of information that explains the animation. Since it is not complicated in terms of use, it can be used by any age group other than young people. In this way, they can learn about Parker's adventure journey to the Sun.

Detailed Project Description

When the users open our app, they are going to be in space. They can see the Sun, Parker Solar Probe, and the information buttons look like stars. When the user clicks the star, Parker will travel on clicked stars until the Sun. In each star, we will show an animation. For instance, the spacecraft details, the Sun’s surface, or the atmosphere of the Sun. These details are going to be the details that were collected and observed by Parker. With this app, young audiences can learn the inspiring story of Parker’s record-breaking journey from Earth to the Sun and all the perils it overcame on the way. Our program is open to development. In other words, in the coming period, we will enrich our content even more by adding different types of animation, a wider universe and articles we wrote.

The application is programmed with Swift programming language. We used AR components such as textures, objects and a 3D model of Parker Solar Probe. We used CreateStudio Pro and iMovie to create animation videos. We used resources provided by Nasa and other to prepare the content in these videos.

Space Agency Data

We search for some information from the space agencies. We find it on the European Space Agency website. There are some details of the spacecraft, the journey, some facts about the Sun, and the mission. We use mostly Nasa’s videos and articles about it on their website.

Hackathon Journey

It is a different experience for us. The limitation of time and teamwork with each other teach us so many things. It was really hard without sleeping but we didn’t give up. In the team, we try to do our best for teamwork. We communicate with each other and try to make new ideas. Whether we know it or not, we have always helped each other, because we had limited time, which made it easier. We chose this challenge because Parker’s story inspired us. The information we learned about the journey to the sun and the things that they observed, reached our attention. Sometimes we had to face some difficulties. For example, there were points where we got stuck in terms of ideas. When there are times like this, we find things to motivate ourselves. Actually, we would like to thank each other. It’s been a great journey. We had fun so much.
