High-Level Project Summary

Main objective was to develop a creative way to share the story of Parker Solar Probe with younger audiences. We decided to create a short animated TV series about a journey of a fictional character on the board of the spacecraft going to the Sun. Demononstrating a factual information about processes in the space and obstacles on the way would be more engaging than just creating a documentary.

Detailed Project Description

Objective

Develop a creative way to tell young audiences the inspiring story of Parker’s record-breaking journey

from Earth to the Sun and all the dangers it overcame on the way.

Proposition

To produce short animated TV series for children depicting this journey through adventure of a fictional

character on the board of the spacecraft. Facts are better remembered through an interesting story and one

of the most popular ways to convey a story is through a video format. People will learn through

entertainment.

Summary of the script

Dr. Parker shares the story with his grandson and a small interesting fact about a toy (teddy bear) that was

placed on board out of curiosity. The kid impressed by the story has a dream that night. In the dream the

teddy bear comes to life in the space and experiences what a person would feel if they woke up in an

unfamiliar place and has no idea about the purpose of this or what to do. Everything shown throughout

the journey such as solar winds, dust and extreme temperatures as well as the behavior of our hero is based

on factual information from scientific findings of space and human psychology.

Target audience

Children starting from primary school age and above.

Execution

-Production will be carried out in Kyrgyzstan by a company called “Tentek.biz” in partnership with

experts in the study of space. The main advantage is the low cost of work due to location

- Distribution will be through local platform called “Etnomedia.kg” and “YouTube”

- Estimated cost is $6 000-10 000 and time period is 3-4 years

Expected outcome

To explain natural phenomena of space in a simple way and spark curiosity in young people which

hopefully will lead to further learning on their own.

Future prospects

- Entering international market by increasing language options and partnering with foreign

platforms like Kinopoisk HD in Russia and Netflix in the West

- Development of an interactive VR (virtual reality) game with the same plot which can be

acquired by any person around the world

Hackathon Journey

Experience was definitely challenging, but through this a lot of personal growth was stimulated in us. One of the biggest problems on our way was choosing a topic and then agreeing on the potential solution due to the fact that members of our team are from different background and have different opinions and preferences. However we managed to self-organize and finish the task on time.
