The sun is also a star”. These words kept circling around in young Parker’s head. His teacher had told him about the Sun that day. Parker had always loved the stars, if the Sun was the closest star to us he wanted to know more about it. Since that day Parker dreamed of touching the sun.Eugene Parker grew up with the love of physics and became a solar and plasma physicist. In his thirties he proposed the existence of the solar wind and that the magnetic field in the outer Solar System would be in the shape of a Parker spiral but unluckily a group of scientists refused to agree with this.
Dr eugene parker was sitting in his room being distressed and He was thinking that time was flowing fast but he was not able to understand that why sun's outer core which is made up of plasma ( known as corona) is hotter than the inner core and he want to know that what are the unsolved mysteries of this red hot star that is sun , a star we daily watch from our world and without which the life would not be able to exist ,the solar systems 99.86 mass is occupied by sun only and 1.3 million planets can be easily put into but he was thinking critically that how he would solve these.
The silence broke When his colleague entered the room and looked at Dr Parker and asked what was the reason behind his distress? “I was supposed to complete my research on solar winds but there are still some mysteries related to the sun that I’m not able to solve’, Dr Parker answered him sorrowfully .” ohh parker don't get disheartened or worried its okay I know you will complete your research soon dr parker's friend reply motivated him as much but nevertheless he want to prove that space is not absolutely clean, and in reality something exists in it, space is not total vacuum to those scientists who had rejected his idea that describe how charged particles streamed continuously from the Sun, like a flow of water spreading outward from a circular fountain and the predictions he made related to the existence of solar wind .
Dr Eugene Parker worked his fingers to the bone and finally after four years he had vindicated himself when Mariner 2, a NASA spacecraft en route to Venus, measured energetic particles streaming through the region of space occurring around the sun and planets of the solar system, exactly what he had predicted. Parker was literally so cheerful that he had no words to express his feelings. Finally, NASA was about to launch a spacecraft, that dived into outer wisps of the sun's atmosphere and gathered information about how our star generated the solar wind. I am named Parker Solar Probe because of Dr Parker’s research and this was the first time in history that a spacecraft was named after a human being .
It was 2010 when nasa started working on the mission to touch the sun through me Now the I am known as the fastest man made object moving at a speed of 586,860 km per hour and as you can guess i have a shield of carbon composite in its material which keeps it safe from the sun's heat and withstand the sun's extreme temperature.. To resist the sun's intense temperatures, the device is made of heat-tolerant chemicals like tungsten, niobium, molybdenum and sapphire.and last but not least
I carries instrument known WISPR. The Wide-Field Imager for Parker Solar Probe is the only imaging instrument aboard the spacecraft. WISPR looks at the large-scale structure of the corona and solar wind before the spacecraft flies through it.
on Aug, 12 2018 ,Parker’s dream had come true as the I was launched in space on its first ever mission to touch the sun.
I was attached with the Launching Vehicle: Delta IV-Heavy rocket and i was launch from Space Launch Complex-37 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. I lifted off at 3:31 a.m. In order to unlock the mysteries of the Sun’s atmosphere,I use Venus’ gravity during seven flybys over nearly seven years to gradually bring my orbit closer to the Sun. I fly through the Sun’s atmosphere as close as 3.8 million miles to the star’s surface, well within the orbit of Mercury and more than seven times closer than any spacecraft sent before me.
Parker couldn’t wait to find out more about our star. I would travel 8 times nearer to the sun than Helios b and would study about the outer atmosphere of the sun that is the corona.Parker spent most of his time in front of his coding computer waiting for the information sent by me.
On 28 april 2021 it was known that I had entered the sun's corona for the first time. That day as usual Parker was sitting and spectating the screen when his colleague entered his room and excitedly gave the good news to him. He said that some kind of solar storms had been observed in space. The solar winds moved with higher speed then it ever had and I had touched the sun and streams of plasma had been observed when I entered the corona. After looking into it Parker concluded that Solar winds are made of solar particles that escaped from corona and it travels towards earth and solar system, but magnetic field layer of the earth kept us safe from it and these particles enter the earth through its poles and forms colored waves on the sky in north and south pole known as aurora borealis also known as northern lights.
On the other hand, these solar winds could form solar storms if charged particles travel in huge amounts towards earth surface which then causes great disruption specially that it harms the satellites.
Parker theorized the existence of solar wind and became the first machine ever made to witness suns atmosphere and the I am expected to make 24 close passes of the sun during its seven-year mission, which is scheduled to wrap up in mid-2025. this mission involved 24 orbits around a sun and 8 orbits have been done and 16 orbits are still in progress
